A few months ago I purchased QuickBooks software and was assured it was new but had been opened but not used and the registration # was with it. Well, I didn't install it right away (big mistake) and did so just a week ago. Well, guess what...there is a registration # with it, but someone else has already registered and every time I sign on, it tells me I only have so many trial sessions before I register it. I cannot register it because it ALREADY was registered by someone else! It keeps coming up saying that this registration # doesn't match up with the original registered name whenever I try to register it. It has done no good to contact the seller - they are still claiming it's new. I'm not looking to figure out a way to burn the seller, it's already too late for that, I'm just wondering if anyone knows a work-around to get this software to work if it was originally registered in someone elses name. HELP!

Yes gousainc, I tried that route. Because I did not purchase it through a retail store and have the proof of purchase, etc. etc., they will not assist. They just tell me that it's already been registered and that's that. Maybe I just need to wait a few days and call again and see if I get a more helpful or sympathetic assistant.
I was just hoping that someone had a work-around that would solve the problem.
Guess I'll have to learn by my mistake...next time I'll just buy my software at Staples.

This may work for you, change the date on your computer to make it sometime in late 1999, try to make it a # before the seller registered the product. I have used this method for previously registered programs. Good Luck.

Thanks mauibabbe, but that didn't seem to work for me.
justmypostingid, I tried the #'s you gave me and got as far as the registration on line page, and entered my information, and now get this message:
A product with the same installation key code has already been registered and the name you gave does not match what is in our database. Please enter the original registrants name and click continue.
So I guess without the original person's name who registered, I cannot get through the registration process.
justmypostingid ... if you would like to email me directly if you have any further information you would like to share more suggestions, my email address is: [email protected]
Thank you for any assistance. I really appreciate it.
