I just ran the newest update to Windows XP - a security update - and now when I click on my scrollbar on the right, it MONSTER SCROLLS! I can click on it one time and it scrolls at least 1-1/2 to 2 pages down!

I can't find a setting for it - if there even is one. Any suggestions (other than get a mac LOL)?

Thank you!!

It sounds like your mouse might be set to a too sensitive setting for you. And/Or that your computer is not lugging along now. kind of speeded up. Find the Mouse settings in your control panel. Try setting it to a slower setting. Try that first. Please post the results and I will try to help you with it.

thank you paloma!

I checked my mouse, and that's not the problem. It was working fine before the update. I click one time on the scroll bar - not on the blue bar, but the open space at either top or bottom - and it just takes off! I have searched and searched and can't find any settings for it. It is very annoying!

Try shutting down your computer and rebooting.

Well....I rebooted, and that didn't take care of it. I did a system restore and took it to the point just before the update - and it's not doing it anymore

So now I am getting the annoying Windows Update thing for the security update LOL

oh oh i THINK I KNOW WHAT IT IS! I think anyway. If this is what I think it is. When your mouse curser is visable on the screen and you move it, does your mouse curser jump around ? or does your screen go goofy? Kind of difficult to diagnose a computer problem this way.

Hi paloma!

No, it's not doing that - it is only affecting the scroll bar. Very strange! I went ahead and ran the update again - I guess I can be grouchy about the scrolling as long as my computer is protected LOL

And here is something else very strange that happened: I use MSPaint to rotate and crop my photos - and it is completely gone! No where on my computer now! I am working on auctions and went in to rotate/crop some photos, and have all my other image editing programs with the exception of MSPaint. So now I have the inconvenience of a scrollbar on speed AND having to get used to a new editing program! It's not my night!

What version of XP are you using. Go to MY COMPUTER, right mouse click on it and click on properties. (geez, I don't have an XP machine here at home) if this is confusing, and can wait 'til I get to work tomorrow, I can you more then. I need to version of update you're running.

look for your software by clicking on START and search. enter the key word paint and see if you can find it on your hard disk. Is this a computer than CAME loaded with XP? or did you upgrade to XP? If you upgraded, it still might be in your windows 9X part of your hard disk. It would be very easy to pull an icon to your desktop or start/programs area. Let me know. I will check an XP machine tomorrow

I'm in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Unfortunately my computer came with XP - I had 2000 Pro on my other computer, and really miss it!

I have Windows XP Home Edition - 2002 Edition.

wgm, too bad you don't live closer or I'd stop by and really take a look at it. I didnt get a chance to get to an XP machine to try a few things at work today. I wanted to try to duplicate your problem. I know in the last few weeks I have done all of the critical updates to the XP's at work and none of them have the symptoms you are describing. Sounds like some goofy software conflict. Did you find your Mspaint program yet?

it might be easier and quicker to have someone local look at your computer rather than me trying to solve your problem on vendio. If you bought it less than a year ago (which it sounds like you have) it is probably still under warranty. You might want to check out your warranty folks and see if they can help you with this. I am sorry I haven't helped much

I really appreciate you trying to help me, paloma.

I have had this computer for barely five months and haven't had any problems with it until I ran that last update. I emailed Windows Update tech support; and, well, you know how long they take!

One of the guys at the Office Depot here is super with problems, but is on vacation til next Wed, so I will call him when he gets back...

WGM if it's any consolation the same thing happened to me a few days ago. Running XP Pro here and clicking the old gas gage on the side of the screen causes as you say monster jumps in the screen position. I have found that if you place the mouse just below the sliding bar on the side it will move the screen in the normal way but if you place the mouse near the bottom and click the page will jump nearly to the bottom. I don't know of an adjustment for the problem but putting the mouse just below the bar and clicking does solve it for me.

romahawk - that works! Thank you so much - I am glad to know I'm not the only one who has experienced it!
