Hi, recently against my better judgment I agreed to open a PayPal account to receive payment for some work I did online. The payment was sent. I opened the account. Then I went to get into the account. My password was rejected. My personal information verification also got rejected.

OK, I should have known better. This is the same old PayPal so many of us have come to know and loath. Began the calling PayPal routine. Endless time on hold while I listen to commercial after commercial for PayPal. The first person I reached who tried to help me deal with the problem (she was about the 4th person I talked with that day) reset things. So tried again. Same routine: rejected the password, rejected the information. Which is puzzling: I know my mother's maiden name, and where I was born.

Second call took even longer. Finally talked with someone who looked at the record itself. She told me I had a "cookie problem'. All my entries had been correct, just this cookie thing. Which was never explained very fully. Nor did I get a solution for it.

Anyway she sent me a new password. Which I used tonite. And immediately hit the verify the personal information brick wall. Same old same old.

On top of this, the guy who sent me the money filed to have it returned. He will pay me with regular mail. Now PayPal is sending me emails demanding I answer charges relating to this transaction. Which is the only way he has of getting his money back.

PayPal is now demanding that I solve my inability to log in by logging in. Which really is getting on my nerves.

Does anyone have any idea of how to solve this problem? Beyond spending the endless time on hold waiting for yet another PayPal employee who can't help to talk to me. Why is PayPal incapable of dealing with a problem promptly? And why do I have to start over again from scratch with each employee I speak with?

Complicating matters, in my new living situation I opted for a DSL line rather than a phone. And it appears I can only email PayPal once I am signed on. Which is useless when signing on is the issue.

It dawns on me that if I am this discouraged from dealing with PayPal what happens to some newbie who runs into a problem.

Looking for help on this, Dale

Sounds like you need to set your setting to let the Paypal cookie in...Click on my Computer,Then Click on Control Panel,Then Click Internet Options...second tab over should say security...then click custom level...set them to low.
After you are done with Paypal go back and reset them to where they are now.

If it's a cookie thing you could try:
open your browser go to: tools, internet options, advanced and hit restore defaults.

Also: tools,internet options,privacy,web sites edit,allow: www.paypal.com

That's the best I can think of, never had any problems myself.

WHAT a MESS for you! I have no idea what could be wrong, but I wonder if the password is case-sensitive--needing a capital letter, or a lower-case one, depending on how you wrote it when you signed on? I've never had that problem with Paypal but some newbies have reported difficulties. I hope someone can help you along the way. Once Paypal works, it's great to have.

Road - Paypal told him the problem, he just didn't listen to ask them for assitance in fixing it. He just needs to turn on his cookies and all will be well but its just os much easier to lay the blame at the feet of PayPal when in truth the entire problem exists soley within their computer and their desire to lay blame rather than seek assisitance.

Actually I did ask what to do about the cookies. And I was told that Paypal would take care of that end of it. No mention of what I should do, just that they would correct it. I am set up to receive cookies, so this also mystifies me. So, fenix, I did ask what to do, received an answer and followed that. I am following Paypal's instructions and not getting results.

The problem is not only with my original password. Paypal sent me a new one by snailmail. Paypal will not accept this one either.

Hi, I think roadsmith may have something there and it does not hurt to try that out. Paypal is case sensitive. when I first started with paypal over 3 years ago, I had the same problem, I called and the first question they asked was about the cookies being set, also told me this had to be the answer to my problem. Back then I was not familiar with the term nor how to set them.He walked me through it and that did not work, he then suggested that I take another look at my log in name and make sure that is what exactly like I originally sign in, and that my password is put in exactly as signed in, make sure my cap key is off or on whatever my password and log in is exactly the same because it is case sensitive. I had everything exactly the same, then it turned out that there was a period next to my sign in name, which I did not catch. He was most helpful and he told me most of the times he gets calls because people have the cap key on.

Have you tried signing in thru a different browser?

I have a problem with PayPal telling you that they will fix he cookie problem considering that that is an internal issue in your computer. they can walk you thru it but they cannot fix it themselves.

The problem sounds like an issue in your browser - try using a different browser.

Thanks for all the advice. I think what paypal meant was they could allow a sign in without cookies, which is not unbelievable. Anyway, I checked my settings. My cookie acceptance is set at medium, which should have allowed the sign in. I tried lowering it to low. And still no result in signing in. So, seems like cookies are not the issue. Why paypal will not accept the new paypal assigned password is beyond me.

Will try using another browser. Just need to find one. Still I wonder, why didn't paypal tell me this upfront. Instead of weeks of wandering around with new passwords etc.
