I have a customer who has purchased two items from me. It took weeks to get payment for both items. This person still has an order for $174.00 but the check got "lost" in the mail. Now this customer is back with a so called order for 5,000 items. This would be great, but I don't believe her. Dealing with this person takes a lot of time out of my busy schedule because I have to provide quotes, check inventory, suppliers etc.
My question... what what would you do if you were in my shoes? Has anyone ever dealt with someone like this?

It sounds to me like deep down you already know what to do, but the carrot is still tempting.
Although 5,000 sounds high, if it is from a customer who does not pay then the end $ result is still Zero.
I would spend time selling 1 item to lots of customers that do pay.

Personally, I would not do business with her again.
I'd block her from bidding and file the appropriate forms NPB and so forth.
If her payment got "lost", then give her 5 days to mail and you to receive the payment.
Set a deadline and stick with it.
File NPB if it's been over 10 days just to cover yourself.
If payment does show up, all is well.

I agree with the people here. I would block from bidding and have nothing to do with this "buyer." I'd also e-mail her to tell her why I was doing this.

I would tell them that you would happily place an order for them with the condition of a 50% (or you choose the percentage) upfront non-refundable deposit. You'll know whether they are serious or not right away.

this thread should be locked so we can all go back to do something productive, like picking green scallions and washing them before they are shipped to CHI CHI .
