and what do you like to use for decorations?
I'll start this one.

I put up 2 trees. One in the den, red/gold and one in the living room, glass/mauve, grape, aqua, frosted ornaments.

Play lots of Xmas music; Johnny Mathis, Nat K Cole, Kenny G, Carpenters, Tony Bennett, Mormon Choir, etc.

Set out candles everywhere!! Love vanilla, bayberry, raspberry, and grape.

Each room has something festive!

Please share!!

Don't know what Xmas is, but Christmas season is upon us -- and as such we put up our tree Friday night (day after Thanksgiving). We have Tacquitos and sour cream, my son and I set up the tree, I do the lights, and my wife preps the ornaments which the kids hang. I do the star and voila.

My wife made a cool "Jesus is the Gift" lit display for our foyer (so it shows through the storm door when open) and we put up a few lights outside.

(Sorry, I just really hate "Xmas" since it ruins the holiday by removing Christ from it.)

With both my children grown and on their own, we don't do much decorating anymore. We bought a small fiber optic tree that I decorate with some ornaments given to me by my mother. We'll put some fresh garland on the railing outside and that's about it. I've given most of my decorations to the children. We both live such busy lives that there really isn't much time for anything. Besides, by the time Christmas rolls around, I'm pretty tired of it all. It starts now around Halloween. That's much too early and takes all the anticipation out of it.

Both kids are moved out, but INSIST we do everything the way it was when they were kids

Besides, Mike likes to have 'competitions' with the neighbor, on who has the most lights, (its all in fun, no one is that serious... I don't think! ) so he'll probably start them Friday, he's already bought hundreds of new ones
(its GOTTA be a guy thing)
and he's not that young anymore, he's counting down to retirement here!

I personally haven't put anything up yet.. just Thanksgiving stuff! The florist was just here with a wonderful Thanksgiving centerpiece from a relative.

now for the cleaning........ ugh (and it will be just one HUGE mess by tommorow evening anyway!!!! )

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

My (retired) mother lives with me. When I got home from work yesterday there was a 3 foot tree in the living room (decorated in pinks to match the decor of the room) and a 3 foot tree in the dining room (decorated in golds) and a large tree in the family room.

The tree in the family room is trimmed in deep purple and silver. There were a few other decorations here and there. I'm on vacation next week and will probably add a few small trees too.

We like Christmas decorations (in case you couldn't tell).

My two girls are grown and have families of their own too, but I can't resist decorating the way it used to be when they were home. I still have the same decorations we had fun making when they were little. We made "special" Christmas balls. They would pick one favorite snapshot of all of us for that year and we would cut out parts and glue it onto the ball and put glitter and rickrack around them. Then each had the date on it. I have one for each year since 1973 when my youngest daughter was born. And, we went back and added some for the oldest daughters early years. 1973 has a picture of my baby born that year, 1978 has my college graduation picture since I graduated that year (when I was 32), 1986 has my oldest daughters high school graduation, and the years when nothing much happened we used vacation pictures, new pets, etc.

My grandma lived alone for nearly 30 years after her husband passed away, and there was a huge Christmas tree at her house every year when I was growing up. I guess I would be lost without one.

We put the tree up yesterday and will decorate the rest of the house and the outdoors after Thanksgiving. I wish I had more room, but we live in a small apartment and one tree is all we can find room for (especially with Ebay in nearly every closet and the spare bedroom))

lindajean, I have saved every Christmas ornament and things my girls made from when they were young too! I have the 'cookie' cutout ones they made in KINDERGARTEN, and I have a Babys 1rst Christmas for each when they were born. Man I have a lot of stuff!

So, anyone sell any Christmas decor on ebay?

(I put that question up there for any sticklers who say 'how is this ebay related' LOLOL)

I did, but about a month ago, a stained glass nativity piece

I'm selling some of my mom's Christmas stuff for her. She's moving to Florida and needs the cash. Her 50+ piece set of Fontanini is up and I have some dated ornaments I'm listing on Friday. Most of the rest was given to my daughter who really decorates for Christmas. I wish we had more time around here. We'd never be home to enjoy it all. I suppose I could decorate my eBay office, but there's already too much stuff in here. My boyfriend and I both have full time jobs plus have other side jobs. He's a muscian and also sells AmeriPlan. I spend most of my spare time at my daughter's anyway. She only lives about 10 houses away.

This year we will try to put up our tree. Last year we couldn't get past putting the lights on because everytime we got the tree situated our two kittens (full grown now) would climb the tree (fake tree) and scatter all the branches. Then they would knock it down. I wasn't about to put any of our breakable ornaments on the tree. This year we have the same problem with two more kittens who love to climb. They're a little older than ours last year at this time, but still full of energy. We'll see how far we can get this year. At least we can put the lights up in the window and other decorations.

When I went to a garden center to look at treas I fell in love with the old world ornaments. They had the most beautiful tree decorated with them they were white lights with medium size colored lights up the center of the tree. Quite striking. The reason I changed is my daughter got married needed ornaments and she took all my old ones. I haven't the tree up yet but Friday is the Day. I also have one of those cardboard Fireplaces from the 50's. What is Christmas without a fireplace and then I have 3 different size alpine trees. One decorated with small snowmen, one with fishing things and the other with the rusted ornaments. It all takes time but it will get done. I also work part time at a garden center where everything is Christmas and has been since late September. It is getting busy now everyone is buying their live christmas trees and decorations. I hope we have snow for Christmas since I live in S.E. Wisconsin and we should have snow but today was 53 degrees and that's warm for this time of year. Everyone have a great Thanksgiving Day. A day to reflect on our past lives and what we can do to improve them. But before Dinner watch America's football team the GREEN BAY PACKERS play the LIONS. Take care all.

We never put up our tree until a few days before Christmas then leave it up till Epiphany. My husband refuses to do any preparations until his last class is over and his grade are in. We are going to my sister's this year before Christmas so will not do much decorating.

Last year Christmas was really hard. We had just put up our tree and were about to decorate it when we got a call that my mother had died. It was not unexpected because she was very frail but it hit us hard at that time of year. We finished the tree and left it up for one day while we made travel arrangements. I am glad we will be with my sister this Christmas although I know there will be a lot of tears and "remember whens".

After years of collecting we can now fill a 6 foot tree with ornaments that relate to several of our collections. Most are camera related. This has not been a good year so far for camera ornaments. I have not seen any current ones but I have my eye on an out of production one on eBay.

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and a happy and productive Holiday season.
