I currently have road runner, and dread changing them, but for 48 hours now they have been blocking my emails. They say it's their new anti-spam blocking program. They claim I have to have the senders contact their ISP to become unblocked - yeah, that's going to happen. A buyer gets a bounced email and they're going to contact their ISP? I don't think so. They are also blocking ebay and paypal emails. So, for now I'm reading my emails directly from yahoo instead of having them forwarded to my road runner account, but I like to use outlook and can't get yahoo to work there.

Any suggestions? Are there DSL services that will let me use outlook? One of my selling IDs (a small one, but still) uses road runner as its email address, so I'm sure all those are bouncing!

I have Earthlink DSL.
Use Overlook.
Haven't had a minutes trouble since the day I started!
And you can buy different speeds.

Ihula you probably like fast but I have corecom and I really like it go to
http//www.corecom.com and see what they have. It is just a dial up I think, unless they have changed something. Great prices with telephone included.

ihula; Do you want dial up or DSL? I had MSN dial up for over 2 yrs & it was fine. I now have Verizon DSL & love it. Will never go back to dial up. The slow speed of uploading pics was driving me up a wall. With DSL it like the speed of sound.

I probably need DSL - I loved my cable, and couldn't deal with anything slower.

Edited to add that I need to make sure it works with my lynksis router too. And outlook since that syncs up with my ipaq.

I'm starting to wonder what I did with my life before computers.....I'm thinking it was a happier and simpler time [ edited by ihula on Dec 3, 2003 05:14 PM ]

I've been with Earthlink for over 10 years now, first with dial-up and now with DSL. They are great! Never had a major problem with them, and the small problems I had, a techie would talk me through over the phone no matter how long it took (I am a technopeasant). And now they have Live Chat Help!

You could just get a webmail address like Yahoo or Hotmail. Your ISP doesn't have any way to mess them up

I've run my business exclusively through Yahoo mail for years. I've never had the first problem.

They've got message filters, folders and everything else you need to handle email easily and cheaply. You can do it for free or use one of their pay options.

There are two great advantages to this: You can keep the same email address no matter who your ISP is, and you can access your mail anywhere, not just from your main PC.

I use Road Runner too, but have NEVER checked the email account they gave me. NEVER. To be honest, I don't even know what the address is anymore.

Earthlink has Webmail, so you can access it from anywhere (as do many others).

I have yahoo now, and that's what I'm currently using (reading it right off the web), but one of the reasons I loved using outlook is because I could filter through my messages and find what I was looking for (when I shipped something out, what they bought, etc.). I didn't know I could do that through yahoo. I'll have to look into that. I do pay the $19.99 a year, too for extra space.

Earthlink does block email as well. I've had clients who had earthlink, and were not getting mail from their own website. This did not go into their spam blocking folder or account either, just plain didn't show up. This is a very serious issue, with all the spam blocking. I found out that AOL was blocking mail from one of my domains. The way I fixed this is I have all mail being sent to me go through one of my domains, and I download it directly into Eudora - no spam blocking. Yeah, I get too much spam, but I get all my email. To send out mail. I use my cable modem company's SMTP outgoing server, and all my mail (as far as I know) is being received.

Earthlink's spamblocker routes email from unknowns into two files: "Known spam" and "Suspect Email." It is a simple matter to check your suspect box and transfer the email into your inbox.

Ihula, you have a domain name, right? Do you use it for email adresses? I am sure your plan includes at least one pop webaddress, I.E. [email protected]
Those emails will go right to you- your ISP has nothing to say about it. YOu set up the account in your email client on your computer- it calls to your website and brings back the mail.

Or if you didn't get email with your website, you can pay Yahoo $30 per year get pop3 access.
Then you can just add another email account to outlook and the isp can't do anything to it.

Well, I tried an experiment and it didn't work very well. I started getting more mail through outlook, so I thought maybe Road Runner fixed the problem, so I forwarded my yahoo account back to road runner. I did receive ebay and vendio notices, but not my paypal ones. So if it's still blocking paypal I'm sure it's blocking others also - I went back to reading my mail on the web.

I do have a few email addresses - the one for my website ([email protected]), one through vendio (the mailstep.com), my yahoo one and my road runner one. The problem is I had them all forward to yahoo, and then I would have the yahoo one forward to road runner in outlook so I could read all my email in one place. Maybe that's just too much forwarding (paypal and vendio would go from @mailstep.com - get forwarded to yahoo.com which would forward to @wi.rr.com)

I did try to put yahoo in a pop3 account and read it in outlook, but I kept getting an error message "cannot verify email test message. Please check the email address". Well, I know the email address is correct, so I'm not sure what's wrong. Contacting yahoo is non-existant.

I guess I could just keep road runner and not use their email address - that wouldn't be the "end of the world".

I think that's the best solution as long as their service is otherwise satisfactory.

I gave up on using my cable email when they morphed through various names: mediaone, roadrunner, att and now comcast. I don't even know how to "sign-on" to comcast!

Ihula, go the other way- forward everything through your webdomain address...
