I have a confirmed address but there are times when paypal tells the seller it is an unconfirmed address. When I pay from the link in the auction I'm unconfirmed, when I pay with the send money link in my paypal account I have a confirmed address. I've had buyers tell me they've had the same problem. It's been going on for quite some time now (at least 2 or 3 weeks).
I believe it is a deliberate attempt to limit paypal's risk. Opinions?

When this first started happening I called PayPal to see what was up...they said their computers are not tied into ebay's computers. When I went to pay for an item through the ebay page I saw a place to update addresses and saw that my ebay address was not EXACTLY the same as the PayPal address. I changed the ebay address to match the PayPal address ( i think one was in my husband's name and the other was in mine) and my address started to show "confirmed" again.

I found the place on eBay announcement board that addresses this issue:

***Pay Now Button Enhancement: Update***
Date: 11/13/03 Time: 05:31:28 PM PST

Recent changes to the Pay Now button process on eBay have caused some PayPal buyers to unintentionally pay with their primary eBay address instead of their confirmed PayPal address. In many cases these addresses appeared to be identical, making the change hard to notice. We have now added strong messaging to the Review Purchase page to indicate if an address is unconfirmed. Members' confirmed PayPal addresses have maintained their confirmed status.

To solve this problem, we recommend buyers with a PayPal confirmed address make it their primary eBay address as well. To do this when paying for an item, click the "Change shipping address" link on the Review Purchase page and then click the "set as primary address" link next to the PayPal confirmed address. If you do not see your PayPal addresses, click the "Use PayPal addresses" button to access your PayPal shipping addresses. You can also make these changes in My eBay, by going to the Preferences tab and clicking "Update my stored shipping information".

Sellers who received PayPal payments between 11/7 and 11/12 with unconfirmed addresses will be protected by PayPal's Seller Protection Program if the buyer had an identical address confirmed within their PayPal account.

We apologize for any confusion and appreciate your patience in this matter. For more information about the Review Purchase page, please see our Frequently Asked Questions.

I noticed at one point in November that my address was coming up unconfirmed when I payed from the eBay item page. I send several before I started clicking on the change address button because the two addresses looked exactly the same to me. I am lucky that no seller refused to ship to the "so called" unconfirmed address. I then clicked on the change address every time I saw the unconfirmed tag. The last few payments have showed up as confirmed without the change of address. Maybe they have fixed it or my request to make the different (or so they said) address my default finally worked.

Doesn't seem like a button enhancement from the seller's perspective. How's a seller to know that the buyer has an unconfirmed confirmed account. From the announcement board message Neglus was so kind to post it would indicate that beginning 11-13 payment from unconfirmed confirmed addresses will not qualify for seller protection. I don't necessarily want the address for my buyer and seller id's to match and I can do a work around but there are a lot of newbies out there that just won't get it. Why would paypal/ebaY launch this unenhanced enhanced pay now button with the unconfirmed confirmed address?
