I have been buying and selling on e-bay since 1999. I now do more buying than selling.

I have always had 99.9% good luck with transactions.

Lately this has changed. I have run into more sellers that do not answer e-mails. It seems worse since e-bay and paypal now offer automated invoicing etc.

In the past two weeks I have had two sellers not have the items I have won and offered to do a refund.

I e-mail stating to refund my paypal account. Days pass and no refund.
I posted my first seller problem here and filed a complaint with paypal. Only then did I receive a refund along with a curt e-mail from the seller stating she would have gotten around to it if I had given her time! I gave her three days to refund me!

Well I am in the same boat again. Seller accidently shipped my item to someone else and that buyer complained it was not authentic anyway. She offers refund three days ago. I immediately ask for the refund and guess what? As of today no refund!

I remember reading on the paypal website that you can only file two complaints within a 6 month period. Is this accurate?

By the way both sellers have decent feedback. I checked before I bid.

This is so frustrating, I could scream!

may be you should switch to buying from bestbuy, walmart, target, sears, nieman marcus, saks, tiffany, cartier or even dollar general or 99 cents only stores.

The customer service of many ebay sellers is horrible. I now only buy at ebay as a last resort. The big sellers took over ebay and the big sellers are killing it off.

Lsst:

Those of us who buy regularly on eBay can appreciate your frustration.

For the most part, the sellers are great and the merchandise is well described, but then we buyers seem to run into a spate of 'less than top-notch' sellers, and it can be discouraging.

I ran into a similar experience about a month ago. The seller was, however, new and did not know how to refund through PayPal. (The description stated in good condition. It was actually old, dirty and broken. Cost me to send it back.) I had to do the PayPal research to teach her, then wait for her to figure it out from her end. Took well over a week to get the refund finalized, after she had received the item. I sent it with delivery confirmation, so I knew when it arrived.

Yes, I left her positive feedback about 'solving a problem'. Were she not so new to eBay sales, I'd have left a less than complimentary remark.

Best to help, though, than to abuse. One day I might decide to sell and need help from an experienced buyer or two! ?????

Stopwhing, I do not get your point.

It just seems unusual to me that after years of hundrerds of good experiences all of the sudden several bad all in a row. I just mentioned two.

The items I buy you usually can not find in the department stores.
AS for being new sellers, These sellers have been selling for a long time and should know how to do a refund. After all, the sellers are the ones offering the refunds due to their mistakes.

I've only had to refund once and that's because I didn't package something as good as I could have. In the end, it probably was not my fault (earrings broke), but I don't want to lose a good customer over it. I offered two options: return the necklace and the earrings for a full refund or I'd refund 1/2 and she could keep the necklace. She chose the latter. I refunded immediately. It only takes a couple of minutes. There may be some sellers who are far busier than I am so I'd give them a couple of days. A lot of sellers don't keep money in their Paypal accounts and it could be that your seller is in the transitional stage: that time between withdrawing the money and having it show up in their personal bank account.

there are some sellers who list so many items, they dont even know some bidders never send payment,or they dont even care as they are just too busy.
3 days is not a lot of time for a busy seller to refund your money via paypal.
when you buy from individuals ,you must understand some can be very fast in handling matters and some very slow, there was a time i thought half of the population in the country are either dead or in hospital and the other half need the money to fly and attend funerals.
also may be they hope you are so busy, you may even forget the refund!!!!!!!!!!!

Pat: I think plenty who start off buying wind up selling. And your arse is already over here, so I'd say your headed there. I also dont know that being new as seller is a good excuse not to know how to refund. IMO, I think you should make that your business to know how to do if your taking electronic payments - and I'd be leary of even thinking they are 'new' with so many with multiple ID's.

As said over and over here by many, its all a gamble no matter how much you think you've checked or researched. And then there's the old addage: "Sh** happens" (cuz it really does)

Good points, Neroter12.

From what I've learned here, I am sure there are many with multiple IDs, and my gal could have been one of them. But I seriously doubt it. She truly did not understand how to do a refund through PayPal. I agree, she should have done her research earlier on the many aspects of selling. She certainly should have realized that the sale of mis-represented merchandise can be expensive. Do hope my business with her was an ‘over-the-bow warning'. If not, she'll be gathering multiple negs very quickly.

I also gave her the link to this forum. Do hope she registered and is utilizing the knowledge so generously shared here.

Meantime, I learn a lot about what the seller problems and challenges are while visiting here. I KNOW it has made me a more aware (and hopefully, more considerate) buyer.
