I know, I'm lucky. Two years and only one.
Okay, the deal was this: he paid for item,
I mailed it, he received it (USPS Delivery
Confirmation), two months later he does a
CC chargeback, PayPal takes the money back
from my account, and notifies me that due
to a minor technicality I am NOT covered
under the Seller Protection plan. Even if
I was covered, my best case would be to
just lose a little money, as there is a fee
for the process of fighting the chargeback.
The worse case scenario would be to lose
more than I already have. Lucky me, I'm
NOT covered, so my losses are limited. Oh,
and if I could fight it, it would takes
up to 4 months! Its not tons of money,
but it was MY money. I'm out MY item, and
all my fees, and the money. Not happy!

I don't expect sympathy, but I would like
to know if there is ANY way to avoid this,
other than: 1) no PayPal, or 2) going back
to the basic PayPal account (which I think
would limit me to only $250.00 a month in
sales). Neither of those is an option!
I'm thinking of adding a small "handling"
charge ($0.25) to my shipping fee to offset
this incident and what I now expect to be
future similar incidents. Sort of "put the
money in a jar, and when it happens next
time, don't get mad, just take it from the
jar" kind of thing. Anyway, I feel better
for typing this. Please be kind! :^)

No, the basic PayPal account does not limit you to $250.00 in sales.

And it doesn't protect you from chargebacks. See the thread "PayPal muffs it again".

PayPal has pulled this "not covered by the Seller Protection Plan" nonsense on a lot of sellers, and if we all complained to California state authorities, there's a chance something might be done.

Especially since our Attorney General is Bill Lockyer, an opportunist of the first stripe. If he sees a chance to grab the headlines with a prosecution of PayPal/eBay, he'll do it.

(Californians may remember Mr. Lockyer as the politician who recently married his pregnant and much younger girlfriend about three seconds before she gave birth.)

can you be more explicit what this minor technicality is??
paypal has been around for years ,it is hard to imagine using vague excuses like that??appealing to higher court such as visa/mc would cost a lot of money,do you have the paypal email??

Doesn't matter. And its not material to the
fact that he got the item, so there was NO
reason for a chargeback TWO MONTHS later,
with NO contact from him at all.

Per a suggestion in another thread I am
downgrading [sic] my account to Personal
from Premier [sic] so that I don't have to
worry about (at least) this happening again.
