does anyone know how to get the legitimate email address off a spam message?

I'm getting so many spam mail messages these days that I have to carefully sift through all my new mail to find my ebay-related messages. When I reply to a spam message, it always comes back and undeliverable.

suggestions?

You can't fight spam by replying to it. Some people would argue that's the worst thing you can do.

A common method of harvesting addresses is a dictionary attack: they try every known word at every ISP. Something like this:

[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]

etc.

Since it's all done by a computer, the spammer can guess wrong many times without penalty to him.

OK. So here's how you make those addresses unspammable:

[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]

The spammers haven't figured out how to do every combination of number-for-letter substitution in every English word.

Here's another way to create an unspammable address:

String some words together.

[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]

You get the idea.

I nearly lost it this morning! Got an e-mail with subject "Account has been terminated" from "Your Account Manager." Thought it was Ebay or PayPal or such. It was a viagra spam. Very scary to see in the e-mail lineup!

Many of the clever spammers use subject titles like " Account Information " or " About Your Account ". It's very difficult to ignore those subject titles because everybody has some kind of an account.
