Argh. Just venting....
A buyer who just registered (no feedback) put in a bid on one of my auctions with two hours left in the auction. He then emails me with 20 minutes left in the auction and says he "accidently" bid $10.00 more than he can afford and wanted me to cancel the bid. This aggrevated me because his high bid was potentially keeping other buyers from bidding in the last hour, not to mention that if it was a true accident one would think he would email me right away, not an hour and a half later (after he no doubt found the item cheaper from other auctions).
My first inclination was NOT to cancel the bid, let him not pay and then neg him. But in the end I decided to cancel his bid, block him from bidding on any of my auctions again and hope the item would get some last minute hits.
Had he placed his bid and emailed me right away with his "story," I would have had no problem with the whole thing. But waiting until the auction is almost over, effectively killing potential last minute bids really got under my skin. Admitedely, I've been in a foul mood today.

What was hard about your choice ??
1)You cancel the bid.
2)you end up with an NPB and the possibility of receiving a neg.

I don't remember saying the choice was hard. So to answer your question, there was nothing hard about my choice. I do, however, find it iritating when a buyer wants to backout of a high bid right before an auction ends. YMMV.

You have more goodwill towards men than I do. I would not have acknowledge his mail 20 mins before the auction ended and neg'd his tail. I applaude your decision.

Whatever I say now will have no bearing on what you did. I would have ignored the bidders email & then NPB'd him. So you get a neg, so what? You can respond to the neg & go on with life. Negs like this will have no affect on your future sales, but will show nonpayers that you mean business.
