Which Firewall system do you use, and how do you like it? Also, what type of computer are you running?

Max Thanks, I'll check it out - I asked what computer you were running, because some programs just don't mesh with Compaq - like McAfee - and we run Compaqs

So that is two votes for Zone Alarm.

Thanks!

Zone Alarm is part of the package I received when I went to DSL service. I have their basic service and it works well.

I run Windows XP and have used Zone Alarm for over a year. I use the free version and it has prevented over 39,000 attempts at access to my computer. I don't remember the exact number because I just did a program update yesterday and it reset the count but I was amazed at how many it had intercepted when I was playing around with the information page last week.

Hi. - for what it's worth, I use McAfee's firewall - have never had a problem in 8 years of online sales -

just wondering-if you have dial-up do you really need a firewall?

We have both satellite and dial up. We use the satellite most of the time, but when the weather is bad, it can slow down a great deal, and then we switch to land lines. We have 3 computers running all the time, as we are full time e-commerce, and most of the time they are on the satellite. (No cable or DSL available in our area)

We run Norton Utilities, and Compaqs, so McAfee is not an option, it just doesn't work well with Compaqs. As you see can on their site, there are very specific instructions for Compaq users, so after one test of McAfee, we stay away from their products.

Guess I'll check out both Zone, and Norton's fire wall..........thanks for the input.

I believe if you use a router to connect more than one computer then a firewall is not necessary.

If you are already using Norton products, then bundle everything with Norton Security & have it all together. I really don't think one is any better than another.

I find Zone Alarm has high RAM and CPU utilization depending on your network traffic.

Although it's a good product overall I would choose that after I installed a hardware firewall such as that in a Linksys broadband router. IP masquerading is muye bueno! (very good)

***Just do not forget to change the default admin password!***

Zone Alarm specifically works with this router BTW..
