Hey, can anybody help me with what this is? I know its a tie clasp, but I was thinking the picture on it looks like the olympic torch. Hubby says, no way its flowers or something.

All I know is its old. Got it at an estate sale in a box full o junk. I have a lot of these tie clasps -- but how to describe it?
Should I just say "lot o'tie clasps up for auction?" heh!
Thanks.

That's a strange one. At the bottom of the top pic it looks like shoes and legs. So I think it's a lady carrying a monster platter of bread slices or sandwiches or it could be open books. Hahahahaha.

Almost looks like a platter of open books? I've learned from past expierence that auction goods like this have almost zero value on ebay and ebay is the only one that makes out because of the listing fee. The item maybe belongs in a mixed jewelry lot?

It sort of resembles the old universal studios logo.

I could be wrong, but methinks it be Carmen Miranda in her famous "Pillbox Scene" from the 1939 smash musical: "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Blowhard"

LOL, well thanks all for the comical responses. does kinda look like books now that yas mentioned it.

I will probably just put the lot up under tie clips with very little description.

Charlene, I find sometimes its the stupidest things you think nobody will want that gets bids!! Has happened to me a few times already. if nobody bids, nobody bids - my chances are about the same with everything else i have to list>

The second picture shows it right side up. It looks like somebody standing on top of the Seattle Space Needle. Needle has a ribbon around it.

That's right and as Kenny Rogers once sang You have to know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em.

JMHO but this could be a union symbol. looks like a man holding the wheel/circular platform. cannot make out what the items are though.

Max, I turned it upside down and I don't see a man. Maybe a couple of feet with big toes though. lol

Hey you guys are the best you know that?
Some great ideas on here. I must be neurotic because I got tons of things to list and this was bugging me for most of the day! lol! I checked out the old universal logo -- which I cant find MCA's, so I dont think thats it and looked at some other stuff. (Then I started thinkin it almost looks like the torch for the better business bureau, doesnt it?)

But Max, I will have check out the seattle space needle, thanks.

Kiara, I put it under a magifier too and though it looks like shoes in the picture, when you look at it close up it just looks like some inter-twined chain links.

I do sort of wonder if its a union thing? I will have no way of finding that out, though! Steel union?

Ah well, Neuro Neurotic Nero better move on until maybe somebody else comes up with a fun or funky suggestion! Thanks again all!!

Last time I looked out my window...there was no 600 foot guy holding up the space needle!
Looks like Atlas at the bottom, but the top...
On the right it looks like I-bar but as to the rest...it is hard to say!
Maybe it's from the post war building boom, maybe those are building materials?
Okay, hunch mode off...can you enlarge it?

Maybe those on the left are lintels in the lallies (okay, I only saw this in Mr Blandings...)

Looks to be a flame at the bottom with the books on top.
Might be some sort of library or teaching clasp. On the other hand it does look like high heeled shoes on the bottom so it could be the flame of knowledge after Kiara found out what cfmp's were.

Most of the unions have websites. Why not email a couple of them and see if they can help you out. Might have more value if it turns out to be vintage union.

Japerton, I dont know how to enlarge it. Maybe somebody here can? I could hardly get this detail with the camera I have!

Atlas sounds good. And so does post-war too.

All I can know is this lady had rooms and I mean rooms full of STUFF she was selling off at estate because she was about 87 years old and finally moving out of her house into a community. She must have saved everything her and her family ever bought!

I think I spent 3 hours there the first day just going through boxes and then I returned the next day. The Estate sale people were like: "YOU still here?" But I like old JUNQUE.. and I cant be the only one who thinks old junk is so much more interesting than the stuff around now made in china/mexico/taiwan?

Trai, I thought it could have something to do with a library, too. dunno.

Cheryl, thanks for that suggestion. After dinner I may poke around a bit more.

On the right it looks like it may be the handle of a saw? Maybe lumber pieces? Those pieces on top look like they have rivets or pegs in them.

Max, when I look at the second pic that has the clip angled I do see the bow you were talking about. On top sits a woman with a polka dot blouse and a large bosom and she's wearing a cap with a long peak on it. lol

trai, you are bad as ever! You're not going to forget that, are you?

Happy New Year to you and everyone else.

To me it looks like a dome with afiure on top. On the left side, it looks like an I Beam sticking out. Under the dome it lookes like a gear. Maybe it has something to do with a Union.

This is like a Rorschach ink-blot test!

Japerton: You mentioned Mr. Blanding. My all-time favorite movie scene (now that I've painted and repainted several homes over the years) is when Mrs. Blanding is marching through her home with the painter. She wants a room BLUE--"Not robin's egg blue, not sky blue, not too dark, not too light, you know. . ." and the painter writes down "Blue."

japerton & roadsmith, one of my favorites too.

Loved it when the painter, after Mrs Blanding leaves the room, turns to his helper & says "pink, yellow, green & blue"

McJane--I'm laughing out loud here. I'd forgotten that painter's line. I think it's time to rent the movie. Do you recall who the stars were? Was Myrna Loy one of them?

When I look at the 2nd blown up pic that Kiara posted it looks like a fat lady carrying a tray full of pizza boxes to me.

.....and oh yeah I do see cfmp's on her also.

Roadsmith and McJane!
I love that movie!
I have that and Holiday Inn on one tape!
I can quote Myrna Loy with the color choices!! LOL!
I painted my house "butter yellow" because of that scene

Maybe the book like structure is one of those things the plaster or grout on while they are...er...plastering?
(I am sooo this old condo challenged!!)

For your pleasure Roadsmith:

(Muriel explaining to the handymen how the rooms in the new house are supposed to be painted.)
Muriel: Now, Mr. P. Delford, we'll talk about the painting.
Mr.Delford: Okay.
Muriel: I had some samples - ah, here they are. Now, first: the living room. I want it to be a soft green.
Mr.Delford: Aha ...
Muriel: Not as blue green as a robin, say, ...
Mr.Delford: No ...
Muriel: ... but not as yellow green as daffodil.
Mr.Delford: Aha ...
Muriel: Now, the only sample I could get is a little too yellow. But don't let whoever does it go to the other extreme and get it too blue.
Mr.Delford: No.
Muriel: It should just be a sort of greyish-yellow green!
Mr.Delford: Aha ...
Muriel: Now, the dining room I'd like yellow. Not just yellow - a very gay yellow. Something bright and sunshiny.
Mr.Delford: Aha ...
Muriel: I tell you, Mr. P. Delford - if you'll send one of your workmen to the grocer for a pound of their best butter and match that exactly, you can't go wrong!
Mr.Delford: Aha ...
Muriel: Now, this is the paper we're going to use in the hall. It's flowered, but I don't want the ceiling to match any of the colors of the flowers.
Mr.Delford: No ...
Muriel: There's some little dots in the background, and it's these dots I want you to match. Not the little greenish dot near the hollyhockle, ...
Mr.Delford: No ...
Muriel: ... but the little blueish dot between the rosebud and the delphinium blossom. Is that clear?
Mr.Delford: Aha ...
Muriel: Now, the kitchen is to be white. Not a cold, antiseptic hospital white.
Mr.Delford: No ...
Muriel: A little warmer - but still, not to suggest any other color but white.
Mr.Delford: Aha ...
Muriel: Now for the carter room - in here - I want you to match this thread. And don't lose it: it's the only spool I have, and I had an awful time finding it. As you can see, it's practically an apple red. Somewhere between a healthy winesap and an unripened jonathan.
Mr.Delford: Aha ...
(The sound of tableware falling down is heard in the background)
Muriel: Oh, excuse me ...
Mr.Delford: You got that, Charlie?
Jack: Red, green, blue, yellow, white!
Mr.Delford: Correct.
