Boy are the people looking at my auctions now...but still not much GREEN. They are probably some of those last minute bidders. How about you guys....you getting lots of hits today? Hopefully it will be a profitable FLD.

This is why I don't use counters. I'd just be driving myself nuts and for what? Cash is what counts.

Far more useful than a counter would be a note in the auction that says something like this:

"If you looked at this auction and didn't bid, would you mind taking a moment and emailing to tell me why? I am constantly trying to improve my auction offerings and your help is essential. Don't be afraid of hurting my feelings; I can take it! Thank you so much."

A downside to the counters is that if you have loads of hits, potential bidders begin to wonder why no one has bid. It's best to have hidden counters if you use them at all. Personally, I don't pay too much attention to the hits. It's the bids that counts.

The visible counters can go the other way too. A counter with one hit on it hardly inspires bidding confidence.
But a counter with many hits may indicate a sniper has plans on it and the browser may want to bid now.

I use the counters but rarely even look at them unless it's a special item.

I just saw this thread, after I'd started a new one a couple of minutes ago.

Neat idea, Fluffy, to ask why lookers aren't bidding. Have you had responses to it?

I use hidden counters on all my auctions. However I must admit that I don't look at them as much as I used to. I think it was much more important when I was first beginning to sell so I could learn what items were good or what keywords worked best for certain items. Now I only check them on items that I am expanding into and occasionally on "old reliable items" just to see if a change is needed. It all depends upon how you use the counters and not just use them to count.

Some of my RELIST auctions I have NEVER reset the counter and they show 10,000 hits. I think this makes them think WOW!! this IS a HOT item and sure enough,,,,I see GREENS pop up!!!! Yea!!!!! another SALE!

oops!!!! 17,000.........

I,,,,,think that HAS kept my sales going STRONG. Others sell the same "item". (I hate that word ,,,,,item!!!) Worthless on e bay. Where is MY Item!!!!! I paid and I want it right now!!!!!! I have NO idea who these idiots are when I get these e mails.

Where is my $4 million dollar Aircraft Carrier? I paid immediately with pay pal!

Now with that message I can quickly figure out who is calling.

I've never tried it. I have to admit I am assuming it would be more useful than counting hits.

It should be even better to use hidden counters AND ask for responses; that way you'd know what percentage actually write. Even if you got a 2% response rate, that should still give you more information than just the number of page views.

I see the number of hits on my vendio page and can't even remember if I've asked for hidden counters or visible counters! I find the hit numbers are most important to me after a couple of days of an auction. If the hits are extremely low, I tweak the title, and that usually helps. Frequently my new title is much better than the original but when listing a lot of stuff I get kind of brain dead.

I'm going to try an experiment, in my continuing quest to decide if 7 day or 5 day auctions are better for me.

For my auctions beginning Sunday night, for 24 hours I'll count the hits, record them (only about 20 auctions this week),then restart the counters. Then 24 hours before the end of the auction, on Sat. PM, I'll count the hits and restart the counters again, to see how many hits I get in the last day. I'm curious.

Roadsmith,

If you list thru Vendio the hits per day is already available. Just click on the gray triangle next to the listing title. It shows up on both active and closed (I don't think you can see it in post-sale).

Cherished: Yup, I did know that! That's why I said I'd restart the counters a day before ending, etc. I love the way Vendio displays the number of hits to the seller.
