Which day length ebay auction works best for you or does a 3 day or 10 day better than a 5 or 7 day

If you have a popular item with a lot of competition, a 3 day will be best. If it is an items that needs more time, your are better with a 7 day. 5 day is basically the same as a 7 day and would work better to list a 7 day auction 2 days earlier. 10 day auctions generally are a waste of your money as most page looks will happen in the first 24 hours and last 36 hours. The first 24 hours is because there is a special search that allows you to look at newly added items. The length of the auction does not effect this option.

Determine when you want your auction to end. count backwards to when you will have it ready to launch. That should give you your answer. I would have disagreed with Stone a few days ago on the 10 day bit. Now that they have doubled their extended fees, I'm going to pay close attention to those auctions. The only advantage is you can launch on Thursday or Friday and get two complete weekends of exposure, if you are selling the type of item that draws potential bidders on weekends. Be very careful on those 10 day listings. They can be a powerful selling tool or a tremendous waste of money.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

Actually I'd like to try 4 and 6 day auctions

But for some BIZARRE reason, ebay does not allow them

I used to rethink this stuff in the beginning until my head hurt. Like ok I made $$ on a 5 day if I had done 7 day would I have made $$$'s, or 10 day even more $$$$'s?? You just never know without trying them all.
Now I schedule auctions to end when I have time off from my other job to do the paper work.
3-5 or 7 day doesn't seem to matter as far as final bids go on the stuff I sell. If I want to buy something, I search auctions ending 1st so a 3 day seller might have a slight advantage.

I am more interested in when it ends, over length of auction. I don't think there really is a difference between a 5 day and 7 day, but there are certain days that I don't want my auctions to end.

For the past year I have been using the 10 day auction starting on Thursday night. This gives me 2 weekends for viewing. A study done 2 yrs. ago found that there were more people looking on the weekend than any other day with Saturday the highest.

I start most of my auctions at 5 days
and if there are zero bids before the
last 12 hours of the scheduled ending,
I go and revise the auction and
change it to 7 days. There is no
added eBay fee for doing this.

I have no doubt that the weekend is a great time for viewing auctions. It has also been my experience that Sundays have been very good. Only trouble with the first weekend is most of the time your listing is going to be so many pages back that it won't be seen. A bidder generally will look at 3-4 pages of listings before giving up. So on a 10 day auction, your items happens to be on page 15 for example, chances are it isn't even going to get looked at for 4 or 5 days down the road. For this reason alone, it don't make sense to pay extra for the extra 3 days.
