I had a customer whos emails were being returned to me, a total of 7 times. She, however would email me thru eBay's contact member and ask me how to pay for her auctions through PayPal. Whenever I would send an email back explaining how to make payment it would bounce back to me. Finally I reported it to eBay and they suspended her account. Today she sends me a "hate mail" for having her account suspended and I look at the bottom of her letter and it has a copy of my instructions on how to make payment thru PayPal attached. Go figure!

And then when you look at her feedback she has 5 negs for non-payment & no communication....and she blames me for her account getting suspended? She also requested my contact info thru eBay but did I ever get a phone call from her? Nope! guess I am just a wicked ole witch. Sorry everyone, just had to vent!

Because it isn't worth it to call a buyer who's won a low-end item, I've often wished Ebay would give us mailing address as well as phone number in the "contact" item. A quick postcard to a buyer could resolve a lot of difficulties. (A phone call to a buyer of a $6 item will take $1 at least off any profits; at least that's my reasoning.)

If I get an invalid email address I instantly turn them into ebay. To mail seven times is a tremendous waste of time. If everybody turned in the bad emails in a timely fashion ebay would be a much better place.

Road,,If we can't even get simple City or State we will never see a REAL address. Protect the buyers from the EVIL sellers.

To Roadsmith... I do agree with you about a long distance phone call for a low end item. But I must tell everyone about my experience. Her emails did bounce back several times. I notified Ebay and learned she was 1500 miles away. So I went to anywho.com, did a reverse search for the phone number, found an address and sent a post card. She responded quickly, by email, and was very happy because she really wanted the item. Her ISP had changed and she didn't think of notifying Ebay. A story with a happy ending! Of course this does not work with unlisted numbers.

Maybedee: Thanks so much for the tip about Anywho.com! I went to that site and found it extremely easy to use. I've bookmarked it. If anyone reading this hasn't checked it out yet, I urge you to.

Well I can't believe it!!....they reinstated her account with the same dead email address as before. I know, I tried it again last night and it was returned to me. I'm not calling her cuz she lives in Canada and the international phone rates would cost me more than both of her auctions. I also can not find a mailing address for her cuz she's in Canada. Anyone else with any idea's?

Turn it in again. Also try sending an email from Yahoo or hotmail.

Send her a penny through paypal Shamoy
with your shipping and buying terms....I bet she'll get that email...a penny is cheaper than calling and if she claims it you know she got the mail

Calling is almost a foolish thing to do unless it's a fairly high price ticket item because a huge percentage of Americans have either answering machines or answering services.

I sent a money request thru PayPal also a long time ago....that was returned as undeliverable too. I am at my wits end here and by looking at her emails.....it looks like she is going to give me 2 negs shortly. OH, what to do?
BTW, I did turn it back in again....dont understand why they reinstated her acct. ??? This whole thing is just bizarre!

That idea of sending a penny is a good one. How much money is involved?

It appears that ebay doesn't do anything about dead e-mail addresses any more. I had a rash of them in the past month. I have turned everyone of them in and nothing. Each and everyone of them is still bad and all of the ID's are still valid. Ebay doesn't care about protecting the integrity of their sellers. They are setting up the sellers in getting undeserved negatives for not contacting dead e-mails.

Of the three times I've requested contact info because someone wasn't answering my emails, two were deadbeats who were real wiseguys when I called - long distance from NYC to Ohio and Illinois. But, at least, the phone contact gave me the input to know I should void the auctions and re-list.

The third one was different. Guy had perfect 100% feedback, and from recent auctions, too. He mysteriously wasn't answering my emails for an extended period - it was two or three weeks. His contact info was at his employer, and the office had been closed; the phone number was disconnected. So, I looked up the Web site for his company and found him through the corporate locator. He had been called away on a business trip and had forgotten about the auction. I got a profuse apology and a money order sent FedEx the same day, with some extra money to cover the cost of my phone calls to Oregon. He was also extremely grateful that I didn't ruin his feedback - gave me the world's most enthusiastic positive.

So, my feeling is - make the call, even if it's a low ticket item.

That's easy for me to say because I work from home and have Sprint's unlimited service package deal. But, even when I didn't, the phone calls I made did resolve things, one way or the other.

If I had a lot of these, I might feel differently. But one here or one there, and I think it's worthwhile to make the call.

Roz
