I get this email tonight from a customer who bought something from my store back in the begining of November. She says she didn't receive her item. Why wait till now to tell me ????????????? I have to wait till Monday to get the receipt from my office.

My other gripe is: I received two payments made out to my Ebay ID and my Vendio name. One was a check from a guy here in the US.
The other payment is from someone over in Europe. They sent a money order in the wrong name. I tried contacting over and over but get no reply. I am going to send back the money order and guess write it off as a loss. That was a $200 sale. grrrrrrr

Ok, I feel better now.

I do believe you can cash both.
First sign them with the incorrect name(one check/M.O.is made out to): then sign again with your correct name.

Happens quite often and never had a problem getting money.

Pop - if your bank is anything like mine you can put the check in as an ATM deposit and no one will think a thing of it. I had a mix-up with two Bidpay payments and although the name, payment amount, and description was correct the payment listed the wrong auction number. Seller apparently did no research and just forwarded what they thought was an incorrect money order on to me. Before going thru the BidPay rigamaroll I decided to try to just deposit the check with my normal deposit and you guessed it - no problems whatsoever and the funds were back in my account.

Fenix, you are smart!

I was thinking the same thing about ATM deposits. I went to bank with a stupid 10.00 check with both husband's and my name on it. Teller tells me she cannot deposit it without his signature. (Like he might take the bank to court for 10.00, if he didnt want it deposited into our "joint" account?) So I rolled my eyes, went outside and deposited it in ATM.

Couple of weeks ago I had the same teller who informs me that she will be putting a hold on my lottery winnings check from the state. It wasnt a great sum of money. When I asked her why is that, she said because I didnt have the funds available to cover it. I told her it was a state check, made out to me, in my name, she had my ID and there was no reason for a hold on it. She copped an attitude and told me if I didnt like it I should go talk to the manager. Well that is exactly what I did. The manager apologized, chuckled embarassingly and immediately released the hold. But I let her know I was very insulted this peon in the window figures she can make up her own rules as she goes along and then dispense it with an attitude.

I go to a different branch now.

Tess,

We just had a similar experience with a check at a bank - in which they informed us that they would even put a hold on a cashier's check because of all the fraud that has been perpetrated. Apparently, they told us, it was actually up to the individual teller's discretion whether they placed a hold on the funds.

I've seen some very competent bank personnel in the past and some I would trust their judgement. Others, should have continued working where they got their drive thru experience. At least that way, the most they can do is screw up a Happy Meal order... <smile>

Yes, Wayne so true. (Felt she was trying to put a damper on my little happiness in winning the thing, like envious or something.) I had no idea they can use their "discretion" when it comes to cashier's checks.

When tellers "use their discretion", I use mine too and close an account faster than they can say "large bills or small?"

I've done in more than once on a Saturday afternoon and assisted upon CASH for the entire amount. Bank managers aren't amused when you tap them out and they have no way of cashing pay checks.

I used to have a similar problem at my bank years ago that that liked putting two week holds on my payroll checks. This was when I was young and like many lived paycheck to paycheck and unannounced hold resulted in numerous checks I had written or bills being cashed. I went in on a Friday afternoon around five oclock and raised holy hell infront of the capacity crowd. My favorite was that the manager asked if I knew the name or teller number of anyone I had dealt with in the past. I told him that over the two years I had been in every other Friday to deposit my check I had never thought to ask for ID of the teller but I was willing to admit that at least one teller might recognize my waist long purple braids (don't ask!) and pointed out a few I had dealt with in the past. However, assuming that all tellers suffered from an absense of short term memory I was quite sure that they could tell from their computer that all of my deposits of identical check amounts (salary is a good thing occasionally) every 14 days would show that they were all made within their branch. Eventually I made a big enough pain of myself that he reset my account so no holds could be placed on it. Later tellers really hated this little addition, especially after I started selling on ebay and frequently deposited out of state checks.

Sometimes being a b**ch is a good thing.

I like Toolady's approach best. If a bank has a policy where an individual teller can put a hold on a check at his/her discretion, they should be reminded that the customer can also change banks at their discretion. And since checks are such a bother for them, don't take their Cashier's check when you close that account. Demand cash!

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.
