I have this Faux Pearl Necklace with Matching Bracelet (demi parure?) It's a little ornate between the links and has some filigree on the latch pearl ...would you say art deco or am I pushing it a little. I looked around the Art Deco Category and it's such a wide variety of stuff it's confusing ! The Necklace measures 15-1/2 inches long (can be shorter)...feels like a super light metal like the stuff you get out of gumball machines now a days. Another bit of my mom's stuff but this could have been my grandmothers.I never saw my mother wear it.

How pretty they are!!! I thought the prop was a wienie but no--a finger! No clue about Art Deco or not. Are you absolutely sure the pearls aren't real? Did you do the tooth test?

Hi Roadsmith ! Thank you ! They feel smooth on my teeth so I'm pretty sure they are fake...A friend of ours taught me that last year...screeeeech lol the real ones are like chalk on a chalk board. I'll never forget that.

mcjane you need a real pearl to do it....first run a fake one across your teeth (it feels smooth) then run a real one (that your 100% sure is real) across them ....spit spit lol rough feeling like grit and have a metal taste...

Never saw pearls set like that, in prongs.
They are very pretty.

I don't have any real pearls, my sister does.
I'll have to try this on hers.
I can supply the fakes.

Thanks, road & toast.

I'll be the first to admit that I know zilch about jewelry, but if I had that set I would sleep much better if I had a jeweler confirm that those are not real pearls before I even thought of listing them.

Let us know the results of your tooth test. I have a set that belonged to my grandmother that looks similar to what you have. Instead of pearls, I have coral. Mine is a ring and bracelet set both are gold. Does yours have any markings on either piece. They kind of look the sarah coventry to me. Are they marked gold? or gold filled?

I would think real pearls would be only on real gold. Also I thought real pearls were always hand tied. I recently sold some real pearls for someone and were they beautiful. I had never seen real ones. They were almost iridescent almost pink with a different look than fake. There were only 15 fairly small pearls on the hand tied strand, with a knot between each pearl, and then a tiny gold chain on each end for the necklace. The owner took them to a jeweler to appraise them and he said they were very high quality and were worth $650. If yours are on gold I would sure have them appraised toast!

Sometimes the older pieces of gold jewelry are marked on the jump ring close to either clasp. Sometimes very hard to read. Sometimes markes are on the spring closure. Your links look like they might be gold filled. The closure looks more like early 50's as I have never neen a closure like that on older pieces. I know nothing about pearls so I can't help you there. It is a pretty set.

I seriously doubt this set is older than 1950 due to the chain/hook closure. Judging from the basket setting on the end-chain-pearl, I would be willing to bet it is 1960. Also, real pearls would never be set in such a thin pronged setting.

It is a nice set, but still standard costume jewelry.

Thanks for all the input ! Their not set in gold cause a magnet will pick the chain up...just gold tone. Thats another reason I'm pretty sure it's faux pearls. I was just looking for a key word to put in the title like art deco or some other era type word that would grab more lookers .You guys and gals are the best ! Thanks !!

Hi toasted
How about using the word, "retro"....meaning
: relating to, reviving, or being the styles and especially the fashions of the past : fashionably nostalgic or old-fashioned <a retro look>
Faux Pearl Necklace & Bracelet Retro 1950's

Your set has a 1950's look to me, it was one of the many pretty styles I remember
