..YOU RIGHT --- verrrrrrrrry interesting auction..he cancelled one negative f/back bidder, and refuses zeroes..hell, he is one himself. it is my understanding that a bidder must establish a c/c and be verified to bid on any item over $15,000 - and the verification cost the bidder $5.00.

If I had the energy I'd turn him in. He's got a link to his website on the auction page, a strict no-no.

It does not matter that it isn't a "clickable" link; just mentioning your website is a violation.

Think eBay would shut him down?

In case anyone is wondering, this guy had a web MikeRoweSoft and was shocked! that a company with a similar sounding name might have a problem with that. Apparently he either lost/settled with Microsoft. Now that his 15 minutes of fame are over, he is trying to sell a copy of the legal paperwork.
The web page is a hoot, though. It explains how he and his colleagues are have a marketing business to harness the power of technology. Content however seems to consist of "like, we're hanging here, maybe we could put something up. What do you think?"
I bet the Fortune 500 are going to snap that up pretty quick.

I thought links to websites had to be clickable to be in violation of ebay rules?

I looked up the rules on bidding on items over 15K. To place a bid of $15,000 or more on eBay (as well as to bid in any auction on eBay Premier), you must provide a valid credit card (your card won't be charged) or, if you prefer, you can go through our quick ID verify process (no credit card required).

From what I read on the RoundTable, the kid is only 17. Thought you had to be 18? Maybe his parents are helping him. The auction should be shut down. I admire the kid's cleverness, though.

What is the links policy?
Our User Agreement policy (section 5.1) only allows listings to contain "...text descriptions, graphics, pictures and other content relevant to the sale of that item." This policy prohibits links to Web sites, Home pages or any page that has items for sale outside of eBay. Such links may be allowed on the About Me page.

How does eBay define a link?
A link is any mechanism used to take you off the eBay site, whether static or clickable. This applies to any format used for a link that includes, but is not limited to, text, images, logos or icons.

iareateacher...
Ebay rules are hardly ever enforced if said enforcement will interfere with the bottom line.

auctionA...i was un[mis]informed.. RE: $5 for verifying...thanks for keeping me from going thru life wrong...as far as the "link" is concerned..he didnt place a link, rather he said "visit my website, etc." DOES THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE. or is that still considered a link?

That's a static link.

"This applies to any format used for a link that includes, but is not limited to, text, images, logos or icons. "

This also means that if your business logo contains your URL, you cannot use it on your auction listing. Nor can you include a photo or image that contains your URL, like trying to keep people from stealing your pix by putting your website address on them.

Horsey's right. Ebay rarely enforces its cryptic rules. Here's an example:

PowerSeller criteria call for a 98% Feedback Rating
http://pages.ebay.com/services/buyandsell/welcome.html

This guy has a 97.1% rating yet proudly displays his PowerSeller Logo

agreed, they seem to enforce their rules..and they are very quick to "bust your chops" if they find[rather you are caught and reported] to be breaking the rules - "i not expert" - this is experience talking - i have been accused/reported for "crossing the line" several times in last 4 years..everytime eBay killed the auction..i mean KILLED it!!!not even a trace, no dust, no ebay emails, i mean nothing..except the charge on my account. in every instance, except one, i aruged my point and won...and, i deserved my one loss-i listed a red ryder daisy m25 in parts and got BUSTED! annnnnd i deserved it. so according to several threads' defining a link, someone will probably report this auction also..
