You know those photo albums that have the sticky back and the plastic cover. Is there anyway to get postcards off that sticky back without ruining the postcard. I was at a sale and the estate had many postcards but were in these albums. Also to giant post cards sell? Thanks

The question of removing glued objects from paper comes up here periodically. Here are some things to try:
1. A product called Undu. Squirt some on the edge of the card and pry it up.
2. Hair blowdryer. Apply heat to the card to melt the adhesive and pry the card up.

That being said, this type of album is terrible for preserving photos or cards, and should NEVER be used by anyone. I am a professional archivist and I have seen many ruined collections due to this.

Are the postcards stuck on the sticky back? Not sure how to remove them! UGH! What a terrible way to store postcards! If they are permanently stuck it might be better to cut them off the backing and not try to remove it and if you are going to list them make note of it and let the buyer try to remove..experiment with a card of little value. The continental cards do not do very well as a rule though there are exceptions if the subject is interesting..ie autos etc in view.

Thanks neguls I knew you would know. This person has 3 albums full of mostly foreign cards. Montreal, england and the albums are rather cheap. $2.00 each. Lots of loose giant cards. Maybe worth the try. Only a couple of cards in one album and one was full of old 50's cars. It was a great one. I guess I should go back and buy them. And try and get them loose. Thanks

The continental sized from europe dont sell very well...(ironic that that is THE continent LOL)..cars might...continental sized from caribbean from 50's and 60's do rather well. don't spend a lot on continental sized cards of buildings and staues and mountains and big cities..they havent changed in 300 years..europeans dont seem to be as nostalgic as we are about the baby boom years

I only bought a couple of giant ones. They are from San Francisco. One is alcatraz and the other the crookedest street. Then one from Key West Florida of a Passenger conch tour train. I haven't a scanner so I will have to wait if I want to sell them....

Does anyone know how to remove postcards that have been glued down in a scrapbook with old paste or glue (from the early 1900's) without damaging them?

I also have a bunch of very nice antique postcards and advertising and calling cards that I bought at auction but they were all glued down and I don't want to destroy them.

VERY CAREFULLY! I don't try to remove the remnant album paper but make note of it in my listings.

glassgrl - Not too sure if the glue is from the 1900's, but the postcards are. Actually, they are mostly all old advertising type cards with ad information on the reverse side. There are some really great ones with black memorabilia and that sort of thing. I certainly don't want to damage them, so I've just left them in the scrapbook...glue and all.
