I am going to be very honest in saying I don't know . I sold some very old china to a buyer, several pieces in fact. I received an email today saying that all but 2 of the pieces are unsatisfsctory. There were 12 pieces. As I always quarantee my china sales, I wrote back & said send it ALL back & I will refund your purchase price. Some of their claims don't jibe with my own inspection of these pieces. I believe they are trying to do a switcheroo. They only have a +3 feedback so can't judge from that. They paid at once through P/P. I still have several pieces left that I am putting on this week & everyone of theses pieces is as near perfect as you could expect from 90 yr. old china. I'm sorry to rant like this, but after all of the yrs. I have sold china, I don't believe that I could be so wrong on so many pieces.

Buyers remorse!!!!!! Maybe they have a set that isn't pristine and they bought your pieces and are sending back their pieces. It could happen. I believe you are not a dishonest seller and if there were any problems with the pieces you would have stated that. When they send them back compare them to your photos and see if you can see any difference. Good Luck

and if anyone knows their china, YOU do Sanmar! It's not you!

I would do the same thing. Make them send it ALL back at their expense and then refund. Could be you'll hear their satisfaction level has improved

Does this have anything to do with when you were freaking out last week about the newbies bidding on your auctions?

OH, and be sure and mention that all the pieces you receive back must have your "invisible mark" on them....

*******************************************

Oh, I see what it is! In your feedback, one of your latest buyers says "handled refund promptly" which gave her license to say, "hey, where's MY refund?"

*******************************************

AND check to see what they've been bidding on....if it's the one I *think* it is, then they've either decided it doesn't "go" with what they've been buying or they've overspent. I see one buyer you've had with very few feedback that has bought a LOT!!

Alan,

I had a buyer complain that the 90-year-old+ cup and saucer I sold her was "old!" She said she wanted to collect items relating to her heritage so she could pass them along to her grandchildren.

It wasn't a large-dollar item, so I caved and gave her a refund.

In your case, I would be fearful that they're returning imperfect pieces in place of what you were sending them.

Since they paid by PayPal, I would fear that ultimately your buyer might file for a refund and make a pain of themselves through PayPal.

Let us know how things go with this one. You could impart some experience to others - and I'll be interested to hear what your buyer says and how they conduct themselves.

I've got my fingers crossed... <sigh>

Hi,

I don't think you could be wrong either, Sanmar.

How on earth could that china ever be unsatisfactory unless they simply changed their mind? I saw that set and it is absolutely beautiful and in perfect condition. Never used.

I agree with the other posters - compare when you get the pieces back and be sure to let the buyer know you'll be checking for your invisible mark.

If there are any signs of wear at all they ARE trying to pull a switcheroo.

Take a look at what they've bought. Can only go back 30 days but it's all china and I *think* it's all the same pattern. Could be they want to swap some they bought earlier for what they bought from you.

Tell them to return it all and under no circumstances to wash or clean it. You need to verify it's yours by the ultraviolet ink mark you put on it. If the mark is not present, no refund. You know your merchandise. If your gut feeling says it's a switcharoo, then it probably is. I sell quite a bit of china also. It doesn't take long to learn that you have to be very specific in your descriptions. No way you're gonna screw up on ten pieces in one auction as long as you've been doing this.

paypal now has this policy that buyer can return items to seller with dc,but paypal is not forcing the seller to refund, but it is a black mark against the seller.
also buyer could file chargeback if you dont refund.
they may not be playing switcheroo, just that expectations vary.when they see them in person, they expect something better.

How can something be any better than brand new, never used? If this buyer's expectations weren't met by Sanmar's china, they never will be.

sanmar. I wouldn't state "ultraviolet" light specifically. If they're anykind of an antique freak they probably have one. I'd just say "secret mark" and leave them guessing.

Take a deep breath! Breathe! Let it out! Now....RELAX!!

Some people are what the late comic Pat Paulsen said " Picky, Picky, Picky ". This sounds like possible buyer's remorse or a switchero. This types of buyers take all the fun out of ebay.

I always say I'll refund if returned in "AS SHIPPED CONDITION" So if they send back something different, you're covered. When you get a dishonest bidder, it hard to know what to do. I like the invisiable mark idea too.
Good luck

Well, The china arrived back to me today. There was no switcheroo, but I went over each piece & can't find a single blemish of any kind. Makes you wonder, especially when they spent $15.00 to ship it back plus the $15.00 I charged them which I don't ever refund.

Sounds like buyers remorse Sanmar. I would not refund shipping in any case.

An expensive case of buyer's remorse. Don't forget to get your fees back...My refund policy is that if there is a problem with what was sold, I take it back. If it ends up not being a problem (buyer's remorse) I will not refund postage either way.

If it is a case of buyer stupidity (i.e. the item was very clearly stated) and they thought they were buying something else, I am not going to take it back. I had one person go to half.com to complain (they purchased a laserdisc that was clearly placed under a laserdisc heading, and even said laserdisc in the description) and they thought they were buying a DVD - Half.com actually took the loss, they refunded the buyer, but did not deduct from my account. It wasn't that expensive, so I guess they figured it was cheaper to take a loss. I got a negative feedback over that too, but I got to return one as well...
