Hi everyone,
Being new to this- I'm confused, perhaps someone can help. I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place, so please forgive me if I am.
I signed up at eBay & vendio, using an eMail address thru Yahoo. I have functioned that way since late January with no problems. My PayPal, ebay & vendio are all linked to that yahoo eMail address. I signed on about 2 hours ago to manage my auctions and suddenly I find my email address account at yahoo totally shut down and no where to go!! I'm in a total panic and am needing some direction - I know it's a broken link but I have no idea how to contact someone at yahoo to find out what is wrong and when I tried to have them resend my password, it simply told me it was an "invalid account". I'm really panicking - can anyone help?

Yahoo email is free because they provide no support. It is fine for casual things and for goofing around with friends.

It's no way to run a business, though.

Get a real email account with a real ISP (that does not include AOL).

I'm often amused by people who are willing to pay eBay fees but won't pay for a dependable email account that comes with customer support. If you don't have email, you can't sell on eBay. Yet some people are willing to risk their business on "free" email.

Thanks for the kind words Fluffy. I'm new to all of this and so free eMail vs regular vs business email is VERY new. But - now I no longer am! At least in one small area. Perhaps you could enlighten me further and tell me what the differences are between free email and regular email. And are there additional mutations? .... Remember - I'm REALLY new. Sorry - we all have to start somewhere - could sure use the kind help and will return it to others in the future.
Many thanks~

Welcome to Vendio and I know you will enjoy this board but be careful sometimes it can get rather sticky. But is passes.

Through your ISP you get a real email address. Since Yahoo is free there is no guarantees. When you signed up for eBay did they ask you for any other eMail address besides YaHoo? If so use that email address. I don't fool around with the free ones. MSN, Yahoo or any other free service. I do have an email address through MSN but it is not my main one. I use it if I cannot contact anyone with my ISP address. When you get a new email address besure you change it right away because with no email address you will have illegal contact information, and that leads to a suspension. Good Luck

Thanks Libra

I didn't want to use my initial eMail address as my inbox is already too full, so I thought a yahoo address was a good idea. I have quickly changed the eMail address to another one but it affects everything and I'm not sure of all the broken links ~ and worse yet, I don't know how any of my previous customers will be able to find me. Grateful for my vendio of course but my PayPal address was that one too. I've got a mess frankly and I suppose I was just looking for someway to sort through it all.

Are there other types of eMail addresses that I can purchase that aren't my ISP? And does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks again ~

I use my main ISP mail address for eBay and have no problems. I don't have to worry about virus's as my ISP has virus protection and I never receive an email with a virus. It is intercepted through their virus protection and all I get is a notice from them that I did receive an email with a virus and they stopped it. They also tell me who the email is from. But call your ISP, they do have tech support don't they, and they can probably set you up with another one. Mine offers 5. I have to eBay ID's and they have different email address but from the same ISP.

my PayPal address was that one too

OK, here's the first thing you do.

You can have multiple email addresses listed on your PayPal account. Log in there, go to Profile -> Account Information -> Email

Here's the second thing you do:

Go to eBay. Click on Site Map (or go to My eBay). Select "Change my email address".

Important: You do not have to have access to the old email address to change it on eBay. Many people get this wrong.

Once your new email is also your eBay-registered email, you can contact all your customers to let them know about the change.

Tx Fluff ~
Done!
Now aren't I "spamming" if I use my vendio database to contact all my customers and let them know about eMail change?

Appreciate it -

Lorelei: My sympathies--and we were all new once. Some of us *still* have lots of questions about things that are elementary to the old hands, and they're very helpful to us all.

I do not believe you could be accused of spamming if you're just notifying old customers of your new e-mail address! After all, some of them may even be current customers, and Ebay would *want* you to do that. I say go ahead and do it.

I'd give Yahoo at least a day to see if it was a fluke. Keep searching for a phone number.
I find the Yahoo and Hotmail accounts are much more reliable than the ISP accounts. You can use two free email accounts and send a carbon carbon of every email to one account as a backup file for all emails.

Hi AA
Does yahoo have those kind of "flukes"? I'm still trying to figure out what kind of heinous thing I must have done without knowing how or what I've done And what I've just read - everything is lost when an account is deactivated. I'm totally lost and no one to connect in with - still have found no phone number for them. Frustrating...
Tx for all the help

If you do not visit a hotmail account at least once in a 30 day period they lock it up and charge a $20 ransom to re-activate it and I think Yahoo is the same. They make a lot of money that way on 'free' accounts.

When I was new I didnt even think about spamming. Lucky I even knew what the term meant in a round about way......let alone think I might be doing it somehow.

People must be getting a way better education being new now. ( But, I just held my nose and jumped in - then learned what the helz I was doing!)

Hi neroter12~
I know the term "spamming" because I had a buyer on ebay three weeks ago that hadn't paid me ( it was at 10 days ) and I sent an eMail every three days after that for about a two week period. thought that was ok - but she sent me really hateful email telling me that was "spamming" so I went and looked it up.Hence my post earlier about why my yahoo account may be shut down. the only thing I can even connect with is that she reported me ( she wrote that she sent all my reminders to ebay, paypal & yahoo) It was weird - do people always act so hateful in their eMails when you do something that they perceive as something they don't like? They were really benign type eMails. She never did pay me because she said it "pis_ _d" her off ( sorry everyone ) that I sent her too many eMails. I tried to read everything I could about sending followup reminders on eBay but I still don't know what's normal. I feel like I'm reading as fast as I can but can't keep up!! Haven't had any other customers like that one.

One pmnt reminder is all I'll send. 10 days after auction ends, they get a NPB alert. Life is too short to chase buyers.

Look at www.ureach.com
They are $30 per year but are very reliable. You can use it as webmail or download the messages with a pop3 program. (outlook express, etc)
They have an 800 number for tech support too. (never needed it in about 5 years I have been using them.

Lorelei, I guess thats how it is. You (anyone) only learn or remember when the problem hits you and then you have to do something about it!

As far as buyers being ignorant etc., it takes all kinds and theres all kinds out there! Ya just keep on rowing your boat, you know?
