I was checking out some ebay rules on feedback abuse and they've updated some of their pages since the Mutual Withdrawal option went into effect.
They always had a note about the legal issues of leaving defamatory remarks and the links to Legal Information Institute and Findlaw.com but it seems that they've expanded it now, or was this much always written there? I didn't see this much written at the time that Chessguy was having a problem so am just wondering.

Second, if a court were to find that your remarks constitute libel or defamation, you would be held legally responsible for damages to that member's reputation. Under federal law (the Communications Decency Act), because eBay does not censor feedback or investigate it for accuracy, eBay is not legally responsible for the remarks that members post, even if those remarks are defamatory. However, this law does not protect the person who leaves the feedback from responsibility for it.
