i been watching to bid on one item..in last 24,48 hours seller changed his feedback to
"private." seller had one negative, now seller has two...and the 900+ are impressive..what happens to make a apparently successful seller throw a cloak over his record?

probably some one complains about the item not as described-either it is not the wood material he claimed it to be and /or it is cheap modern repro.
common with sellers of ancient antiques-million years old dinosaur eggs, ancient egyptian scarab,16th c samurai sword etc etc.

I doubt anything nefarious is going on. You could do a good turn and contact them. Explain about the Mutual Feedback Withdrawal program. Maybe they can cut a deal with their disgruntled bidder.

In defense of the seller, his auction terms state his shipping "INCLUDES PROFESSIONAL PACKING AND 100% INSURANCE COVERAGE!". The auction ended on Sunday, February 22, and the negative feedback was left March 8 - that's not much time to allow for packing, shipping, and working something out with the seller. Just my opinion

(edited to add the closing day was Sunday)

If you do contact the seller, I would explain to him that many bidders, especially on high dollar items, will be more turned off by the hidden feedback issue than they would by one or two negs in a group of over 900 positives, especially if he leaves a factual and professionally worded response. Invite him over here for a few ideas on how to word the response.

Of course it could also be a matter of objectional feedback or something with personal information that the seller is :hiding" until an appeal to have it removed by ebay comes thru. I'm sure if we tried we could come up with at least a couple dozen reasons and at least half would be understandable.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

A bit off the subject but just wanted to let you know that I purchased an Oak washstand from these folks and I love it! Pricing was good and shipping cost was reasonable for the size of the piece. The packing was fine; it came by Greyhound. Whoever left the negative must have really scared them.

The personal information aspect is a good thought.

One of my customers left me a positive feedback and it included my first/last names, which were even spelled correctly. I appealed to eBay to have it removed. (They seemed incredulous I wanted to nuke a positive.) It took about four days. I didn't think to hide my feedback in the interim; I don't think I would do it.

The negative that was most recently left is for the transaction I posted the link on above. I honestly don't think it's that bad of feedback - I mean, I have definitely seen worse! It just states...

"item damaged(was not advertised) upon receipt)-didn't offer discount for repair."

That is why I posted what I did about the seller's terms. Personally, I don't think the seller was given enough time to rectify the problem and the feedback was left in haste. The feedback was left 15 calendar days from payment - not enough time in my opinion.
