Please Help! If you are a webtv seller and are not having trouble listing a new listing, please email me and tell me how you are doing it. For the last 5 days, when I try to do a new listing, the category number will not stay in the block when I go down to continue, it erases. I've been listing for 4 years with no problem till now. Something changed on that first page. Any help you can give me would be most appreciated as I have so many more items to list. Thank you!

What category are you trying to list in?

Are you sure the category is still available?

Ebay is cutting back on categories and going to an item specifics format.

Instead of going back to fix it why not try and launch it and see if it comes back with the problem in red at the top of the page. Are you listing through Vendio? If so go to the board below for Vendio's imago hosting thread and ask the question there. They should beable to help you.

Yes, I'm trying to list thru Vendio as I have done for years. It doesn't matter what category I try to put in, the number erases when I move to another element, in this case "continue" to get the page to list a title and description.

Go here and ask your question and you should get an answer.

Don't know what to tell you about Webtv, but this might be a 'work-around':

Does the same thing happen when you try to change categories? If not you could try copying an active or closed auction and then edit it in "pending" and launch from there. Maybe you can find an auction with the same category and not mess with the category tree at all.

Go into preferences and select a default category. On your next listing, skip the catagory selection page as it will automatically list in your default category so you don't need to enter anything. Just go to the listing page and enter all your information. Try to edit the category from the default to the correct one on the listing page. If you can't, go ahead and schedule the auction for the default category. Try to edit it while in pending. If that doesn't work, let it launch and immediately change the category in Ebay revise. Also, make sure you have all the latest updates WebTV has available as your problem is most likely due to a Java incompatibility with Vendio.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

Sokane - I used to use WebTV to sell and once had the same problem. I can't remember where I got the info, but when entering the category number you have to use the remote that comes with the WebTV (the one like a TV remote. It is a pain, but it works. I got pretty slick with it after a while. Give it a try and good luck. I have to say that I loved my WebTV, an amazing machine for the price and no worries about viruses.

earthmum, I also had WEBtv and loved it. When I get done selling all my stuff I am going to go back to it. I don't know if they have all their discussion groups anymore but they sure had some nice ones. I liked the way I could sit on the sofa and search the web. I can't say enough about WEBtv. I had one of the first ones but I also had a printer adapter so that I could print information. That was a great invention. and your right no viruses.

Libra - I had a printer, and I also did my pictures with a video camera, freezing the picture to upload it. The video camera was a 22x zoom, so the pics were great. The only thing is, once you are used to broadband connection, the WebTv seems sooooo slooooowww! I managed to sell on eBay for five years with my Webbie. I sure hope the original poster comes back - all she has to do is use the remote to enter the category numbers.

I don't know if they have it any more but there was a really informative webtv eBay discussion board and I went in there all the time. Lots of knowledge there as they had to help each other because remember webtv was a bad name back then and computer users thought we were losers. I still have my original one but I am sure it is useless now but probably a collector item.

I will bump it up incase she comes back in.

Libra - I'm glad you bumped this up. I was wondering if sokane came back. I still have my Webbie. They still work, I'm giving it to someone who only wants e-mail capability. I think the board you are referring to was under "Help." Actually, they are MSN now and Best Buys still sells them. I found out something very interesting from a cousin of mine who works for IBM in England. WebTV was invented by a woman!

Thank you to all of you who have cared and replied to my problem. I've tried all of your suggestions including going to inkfrog but have not been successful. I did post an auction thru inkfrog but the picture didn't show up in the auction. I'll work more on that angle to see if I can get it in even afterward as was suggested by one caring person. I'll try again. I am curious as to how many WebTV sellers there are on ebay and why they don't seem to care about making us a consideration when they do any changes which will affect us too as they also make money on us as well. Thanks again to all who posted a reply. I'll post again if I'm able to find some good answers for my problem.

sokane, I`m a webtv seller, just tried a test auction, no problems! I keep my mailbox clear of anything unneccesary, reset cookies everytime I shut down, keep my saved favorites to a minimum, have not taken webtv`s passport upgrade, maybe passport is the problem! You might be able to retrograde back if you have this upgrade. Try replacing battery in keyboard, other than that, I don`t know what I`m doing that is any different, have read other web`ers having the same problems as you. You could try calling webtv, they can reset your box to original specs. Mike

Thank you Mike for some encouragement. I spent yesterday printing everything in my current and save and have the current down to less than 10 and the save less than 5, reset cookies, and tried again but so far no luck. If you would be so kind as to walk me thru each of your steps, in picturesque language, to the 2nd page for title and description, maybe I might see something I am doing wrong. I can't get past the first page where the category number goes and have tried different category numbers, but they erase when I try to go down to "continue." Thanks for helping.

sokane - did you try using the remote to put the numbers in the category box? Put the cursor in the number box, press the remote to bring up the on screen menu, then you have to hit each number on the screen. Try it - I had the same problem once and it worked for me.

sokane, I just entered cat#36036 in cat box as a trial, it took me to title page, no problem! When you reset cookies, do you shut off power right away and wait for lights to quit blinking before powering up again? I really can`t think of anything else that I would be doing differently than you have already tried. Are you using the category finder instead of just entering a number? Has there been any lightning in your area lately, that can affect the box if unit has been exposed to voltage spikes. mail me direct if you need any answers, I`ll try to help, you should be able to figure out my address. Mike

Finally the problem has a solution. Thank you everyone who posted a reply and tried to help. I tried all of your suggestions but (think its just my ignorance) I was not successful trying any of the things you said. But, Diana from customer service suggested I go into ebay (and explained step by step on how to do it) and do my auction and then come back to vendio and attach my photos and it worked. I was about to give up, but now I'm back to being able to list. It may be an extra step or two, but at least I can still do it and thats what counts.
You were all so caring - I thank you all very much.

sokane, now it`s happened to me also, just created 4 auctions, on category page, I noticed there was no 0 to erase at 1st category box, typed my cat. #, it erased, tried again, same deal. Then I tried quotation marks on both ends of cat. #, that took me to 2nd page and I was able to edit cat. from there. After creating 2 auctions using this Very Sloooow process, next 2 auctions cat. page returned to normal, go figure! Anyways, you might try this, it has to be less work than going through eBay to list. Mike
