Ralphie says this is a chinese CHAMBER POT??

Very heavy (?) porcelain bucket which is missing the wire (?) handle!

6" HIGH x 7.25" diameter...

The characters say: "Ralph is Tom's bestest little buddy"

Seems kind of small for a chamber pot--accurate aim might be difficult in the dark?! Seems awfully pretty for such a mundane use but orientals can be inscrutable at times. . . .

If it is one, someone was left with no pot to pee in!

Well, to tell da truth, methinks ole Ralphie was speaking tongue-in-butt-cheek, so's to speak...

Tis a very pretty, ornately decorated item I was hoping some ORIENTAL expert might recognize

About all I can tell you is the characters look Japanese to me. It is rather small to be a chamber pot (all that splashing and all) . I could be wrong. I can only judge by the hard time the men around here have aiming into something as big as the toilet bowl.

Post on my favorite oriental board: www.gotheborg.com These guys are great. However, be prepared for conflicting opinions. That's what makes it fun.

I love it, though.

Looks like a cracker or cookie jar to me. Probably had a raffia or wicker handle. Cracker jars are pretty good sellers, good luck!

THANKS, Cheryl & Earth-mama!

Ralph had a really good weekend rolling nuns & attacking Brownies!

Came up with a fantastic ART DECO ENAMEL on STERLING SILVER pendant necklace that we have high hopes for judging from all the emails we've been getting begging us to end the auction!

Oh HAPPY DAYS!

Hang on to that Ralphie. He's got a good nose for hot sellers! Maybe this "pot" was used to hold rice? I don't think they really use(d) cookie jars in Japan or China. Maybe bisquits? It did probably have a wooden or wicker handle at one time like earthmum says.

Tom,

Don't you just love it when you get those emails? I'm getting them on two old silver bracelets I listed last night. Now if they'd just get on with the bidding...

stop

You beat me to correcting myself. You are of course, right. It is Chinese. Never thought of tea leaves. That sounds better than rice!

My vote is for a ginger jar. Snugly fittng lid. Is it heavy? wouldnt be for soup. It would have a different handle. Maybe it's just a storage jar for spices etc. (in a small voice) i still think it's a ginger jar
