Ok, got my first neutral after 4 years(no negs yet, either)...I'm so steaming mad. I sell closeouts and sold a ring marked a certain size. When I was packaging it up, I realized it must be mismarked. I double checked it against another size and sure enough it was. I emailed the buyer and offered a full refund or another ring at my cost. No response.
I emailed her again and and still no reponse. I paypaled her back a full refund and here is her reply..IN FEEDBACK...STILL NO EMAIL RESPONSE
"refunded my payment after winning auction wrong size?????????? leery"
Now, mind you this all happened within two days.
WHAT? you get a neutral for an honest mistake? The ring was checked for missing stones, etc before the auction, I didn't know it was mismarked at the time, obviously.
I just think it is unbelievable what some people expect. Just wanted to mess up my perfect feedback.
I guess I should have sent her the wrong size and then not refunded her money.....
edited to add: looks like she leaves negs for a lot of people...I guess we are all out to screw her.

Never sweat the small stuff. You have been real lucky so far. Could of been a neg. You would not want this customer anyway as they would of gone of the deep end had you sent the ring.
Mistakes happen so just chalk this one up and move on.

I just got my third neutral, it was from a newbie. I never leave feedback first anymore, but she sent an email to say "Book arrived today, it's great, thanks so much". I left her positive feedback, and next time I look, there is a neutral saying that the item was "more used that she expected". Well, I was a used book! Seemed deceptive to me, I am now wondering if I should wait until the buyer leaves me feedback first, up till now I have been happy to leave it when I hear that the buyer has received it.

When I get feedback like this, I simply put in a response, something like ITEM GUARANTEED 100%, PROMPT REFUND ISSUED - With 4 years of all positives, don't sweat it, your buyers will still love you!

Cramer: I know how you feel! I have 925 positives, no negs, but I got a couple of neutrals, one about 4 months ago. Each time they were Half.com customers who thought their book came slowly--media mail was requested of course and they didn't understand that could be slower! It hurt So Bad! Especially the first one. I don't think it could have bothered me more if I'd gotten a negative at that point. You will get over it, but it also will just eat at you if you let it.

You bent over backwards and tried to rectify a mistake. If she wasn't willing to discuss it, there is nothing more you could have done. You did the right thing in refunding her money. Thank your lucky stars you caught the error before you shipped the ring. Be sure you put this person on your blocked bidder list. You may want to re-think your policy of leaving feedback upon receipt of payment. Even if you are perfect and never make a mistake, the Postal system can earn you negative feedback when they screw up.

Thanks, Sparkz and Road....something to consider. I actually feel better after looking at the replies she left others. Even if she would have received this, I probably would have been destined to bad feedback.....BUT, you cannot check out everyone who bids on your auctions...
posted on March 17, 2004 07:52:12 PM newWHAT? you get a neutral for an honest mistake?
Dah, that was exactly the proper way to use feedback. You don't deserve a positive as not transaction was completed and you don't deserve a negative because you did return the money. Neutral is exactly the proper feedback in this case. That is how the system is suppose to work. Instead of blaming someone else for your mistake, how about taking responsibility for your own actions.

cramer, If you sell a lot of rings you should buy a plastic ring gage or arbor. They only cost a few bucks and will save you any trouble with problem customers in the future. Always remember that no matter what happens with Ebay sales a lot of customers will not believe the seller and will always blame that seller if anything goes wrong.

I would compare getting your first neg or neutral, same diffrence in my mind anyway - to being dumped by an ex - girlfriend.

Stone....you missed the point. I was mad because I tried to work it out with this person and she refused to answer any emails only went for the feedback and made it rude IMHO. Leery? Come on I was totally upfront with her. Of course, I messed up that was not the point.

slabholder -- I can understand the concept of getting dumped by a girlfriend, but how do you get dumped by an EX-girlfriend?

Cramer,
I didn't miss your point, but it does appear you are missing mine.
You surely do not deserve a positive nor a negative in this transaction. That leaves exactly what you received. It is called the truth. Too bad so many people don't take responsibility for their own actions.

Stonecold613,
Cramer indeed took responsibility for her own actions by proceeding to offer the buyer a most reasonable alternative. Certainly we all have made oversites or mistakes, which has nothing to do with the "truth". Obviously she was not out to deceive the buyer. Trying to rectify the error is what is important. A positive could have been posted by that buyer for the effort extended by Cramer to make things right.

Davidsmom...You are correct. And along the same line, a negative could have and should have been posted by Cramer against this buyer. Not only did Cramer acknowledge the error and bring it to the attention of the buyer, he/she offered to make it up with a better deal. Whether the buyer would have been satisfied with this offer will never be known. The buyer deserves a neg for failure to communicate, and other sellers need to be made aware of the type of person they may be dealing with.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

The neutral left insinuates the seller was possibly being dishonest. If we are to believe what cramer says, & I certainly do, then the remark was wrong & uncalled for.
The buyer should not have left any FB
