Had a buyer purchase an item from my Vendio store.
He wants the item shipped to this address
pat xxxxxxxxx
111 xxxxxx xxxxx xxxxx
ipaja AL 23xxx
Nigeria

The item is $18.99 and the post office shipping for him would be $19.00.

He send me a note saying he wants it to ship UPS.
I went and checked on the shipping charges... States the shipping charge is express $127.00 and if I mail on Monday it will get there on 3-26-04.

I thought maybe I made a mistake, so checked it again. Sure enough,, and came up with the same.
Buyer just sent an email asking when it was shipped and for a tracking number...Mind you now, he has not paid for it, so stated so in the email I just sent along with the shipping charges.
If he wants UPS shipping and pays through auctionpayments.com..... He has to be using a stolen credit card or he won the lottery ???

I am not holding breath on this one.???
What do you think ??

The typical NIGERIAN scam involving auctions works this way:

he will OVER-PAY you with a stolen CC & as you to send him change, etc...

Did he do a BIN??

Whenever I see a bidder from ELBONIA or other such pretzel-choking "countries," I immediately cancel the bid & block...

As Ralphie says: life is toooo short!

Scam! Do not answer anymore emails. If they want it they can send cash! Best to put this on Ignore.

Takes an International incident to bring this home to a National level.

Even though there are honest and trust worthy people living in Nigeria, I would not send it until you've got the money order from Western Union Auction Payments, cashed it and the money is in your hands. Auctionpayments.com would be the only way that I would accept payment.

UPS considers their overseas service as a premium service and they charge accordingly.

I have sent product overseas before when the shipping was more then the value of the product, but I do agree this appears to odd. Unless the product that your selling is needed for an emergancy, I can't understand why anyone would be willing to pay such a high shipping cost. Of course he may have very well won a lottery, I'm told people do.

Hey personal moron. PayPal will not catch this until they actually do the charges. It is not done at the time of the transaction but at a later date. That is how you end up with fraudulent funds. I wouldn't accept anything but auctionpayments.com from this guy.

As soon as the word "Nigeria" appeared in that email, sirens should have sounded and red flags should have started waving. Bidpay (W.U.A.P.) and cash are the only two methods of payment you should consider. If he can't pay by one of those two methods, you don't want to complete this transaction. Refer him to a competitor who is stupid enough to accept Paypal on this type of sale.

jack,
my apology,i thought you were referring to the original post.
stonecold,
i hope paypal is smarter than that to earn its keeps-i think nigeria is a country paypal does not do business with,so if this nigerian tries to register with paypal ,it wont work.
They can tell from his IP address he is coming from nigeria ,but then some of them go thru a satellite which will show up as another country/region.
