My duahgter's #1 college pick is supposed to have posted admissions on their website at 5pm EST this afternoon...we have been trying to access this site for hours!!
Error comes up that too many people are trying to access the site at this time (see below). Can this be true? How many people would be "too many people" (I mean it cant be more than 20,000 I am sure)
Is there anything we can do besides wait until the wee hours of the morning? Does this mean the whole site is unavailable or are some people getting through and we should keep trying?? Thanks in advance and sorry for bringing this to ebay threads but I don't know anyone who has as much knowledge as people here.
Here's the Error :
"The page cannot be displayed
There are too many people accessing the Web site at this time.
Open the admissions.****.edu home page, and then look for links to the information you want.

Thanks Rachel...YOU TRY TELLING HER TO WAIT!! LOL
She has been waiting for months and this is just too painful ..I remember in the good ol' days we had to wait for the mail on April 15th and phoned home to see if the envelope was thick (got in) or thin (didn't get in). She keeps telling me to "check again" ARGH! I told her it isn't like a phone line where some people get through and some get busy tone, but then I began to wonder if that's even true!

In fact, it is much like "getting through" on a phone line...
There is a finite number of people who can access a Web site at a time. While there are several possibilities, it probably not an actual "#" per se, but a limit to the amount of data that can travel in and out of their Web servers at any given time.
You can also have issues with any sort of "limit" they put on the number of people who can access a certain "application" at a time. If they've set thresholds, you'll just have to keep trying.
The earlier advice to try to get in when many people will be watching Apprentice or ER (Prime Time TV time) -- isn't bad advice.

We use the local tax assessor office to look info on properties for our inspection business. During peak hours we get that message but when I really need it I just keep trying. It is like calling in on one of those phone contests the radio stations hold. You just have to be the one that gets on next.

If your daughter is going to go where I think she is, you may want to wait until the ladies basketball final 4 is over. They are getting flooded with ticket requests and that is likely why the site has too many viewers. I have the same problem when trying to get the mens hockey tickets when the single seat tickets go on sale.
