Just got this one in the mail. In my "Your Item Has Shipped" mail, I mention that I leave feedback once they have left it for me.

'Once your item has been received in good shape, please leave feedback and you will get feedback in return automatically after a few hours." Here's my quote: "once you receive my money in good shape, please leave feedback and you will get feedback in return manually." When someone buys something and PAYS for it, they have done their part to complete the transaction. So why won't you leave me feedback (good or bad) for doing my part? Why should I have to leave feedback for you first when I completed my part of the transaction before you did. Are you afraid of getting negative feedback. I've dealt with your type before, the one's who will only give you positive feedback if you give it to them. That is backwards. I'm sorry to sound so angry but I don't think your feedback policy is fair.'

I'm going to have to answer him, but I't's too early in the morning to think straight. Anyone got a good form letter for this guy?

Just tell him that you don't wish to participate in Ebay's feedback program, but as a courtesy you reciprocate in kind for feedback left for you.

I've got an answer for the guy.

"Thank you for your informative email. Had you told me that your primary interest in this transaction is feedback, I would have immediately left you glowing feedback but kept your money.

"No, I was just kidding.

"Our policy is to leave feedback after we receive it. This gives us a chance to resolve any post-sale disputes that may arise.

"Thank you for buying from replaymedia."

Even thou I ususally leave feedback when I receive the money, you could also tell him that you have left feedback first many times in the past and alot of times you have never recieved feedback, therefore your policy has changed.

This is my standard reply for issues like this... feel free to use/modify it for your uses:

Even though the feedback program is completely optional, I always submit feedback after each transaction has been completed. This is usually after your item have been delivered and you have expressed satisfaction by leaving your feedback. Rest assured, I do reciprocate all feedback in a timely manner.

I am confident that you will be pleased with my products and service. I take pride in every transaction conducted on eBay, making sure that your item is shipped both quickly and efficiently. I will also be keeping in constant contact with you until our transaction has been completed successfully and to your satisfaction.

If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact me again.

I did both. I sent him EA's explanation AND just left him a feedback.

He got what he wants, I got to explain myself, and no harm done to anybody.

Thanks EA!

I like eauctionmanagement's response. I include something like that in a letter but I never talk about feedback. I use to leave feedback when I mail my package. I don't know if it is age or laziness or both but I find myself waiting. I eventually get to it and I always do it manually with a different but factual statement about their transaction.

Evidently eBay must have a place where the buyer can send an email requesting feedback as I received one the other day. It said I have left you appropriate feedback and hope that you will do the same. I will when all my transactions for the week are done. You know how much effort it takes to get to the feedback area.

I usually leave feedback first. My rating is still great, 99.2% with over 3600 positives, but I do have to admit that there are those out there who feel it is necessary to leave negatives even though they didn't pay, or don't care to resolve the problem by emailing a seller. It happens, it is a way of life. I don't have time to manage reciprocating feedback. I am an honest seller, and my feedback speaks for itself. If any store in the world had a 99.2% customer satisfaction rating, they would gloat and gloat about it in all of their advertisements.

I would simply tell them that you manage feedback based on receiving feedback first because there are a high rate of bidders who never leave feedback even if the seller does. You believe feedback is important, and you base it not only on quick payment, but also how the buyer handles the transaction through its entirety. If there are problems, then you wish to work through them before a bidder leaves feedback. They should see the bigger picture accordingly.

I get these from time to time, and my response is that I have hundreds of transactions a week. I automate feedback (which is true) so a program is running to automatically return it. I don't want to make it a trust issue with customers, I try to let them see it makes it easier for me. I've never had anyone write back after that brief explanation. I also list on my invoice that feedback is automatically returned.

For once stop is correct. Just leave the feedback and move on. Withholding feedback until you receive it first is feedback extorsion. Funny how the same people complain about how the feedback system is goofed up and yet they don't do their part to do the right thing to correct it.

Whatever you do DON'T post feedback first (unless it's negative for bring a twit). As a seller posting feedback first is as lame as accepting PP from an unconfirmed address. It all sounds great at the time but when the twit comes back to bite you in the arze it will change your mind.

That's your opinion Walhalla not cast in concrete, God's honest TRUTH...every seller has to decide for him/her self when to leave feedback and when you are running hundreds of auctions, you do it when it works best in your work flow. I leave FB first, never have to answer any complaints about 'where's my feedback' (unless Vendio hasn't picked up the sale - it happens) and so far it hasn't bitten me in the YOU KNOW WHERE!!

Here are my numbers:
Feedback Score: 4926
Positive Feedback: 99.9%

Members who left a negative: 4

All positive feedback received: 6700

I buy much more than sell but I understand when a seller does not leave feedback first. As soon as I get an item I leave feedback right away or email the seller with any issues.

I do not agree that the buyer has finished with their part of the transaction when the money is sent. Buying on eBay is not the same as buying in a store and feedback is not saying "Thanks" to the customer when they pay. It is much more than that. When I do sell I state, "feedback is left at the close of the transaction" which means either an email is sent to me that the item was received or feedback is left.

Seems to me that the problem with a lot of sellers' feedback statements is the "I'll leave feedback after you do." which sounds a bit threatening to me and could indeed lead to deadlock. I don't see any threat in the "close of transaction" message. This does not insure a fair outcome to both since a buyer who expresses satisfaction can still leave any feedback they wish if the seller leaves it first.

My only neutral came from a sale where I admitted to a mistake and offered full refund with postage. The buyer asked instead for a partial refund. I sent double the refund she asked for and she still gave me a neutral. Guess I was lucky it was not a neg.

Unless eBay lays out a required sequence for the leaving of feedback it will continue to be a personal matter and we should all be flexible with the differences. (Now that sounds kind of Pollyannaish, does it not?)

At this point, I honestly am not going to care much if people gave me a few negs. I am used to them dealing with my half account. The way I look at it, leaving feedback AFTER I receive it is a better BUSINESS decision. I think the chance of a flake changing their mind after the sale just because they want to, change their mind, or already did use the product and wanted and inexpensive rental service are lessened because feedback has not been left, and if they do this, maybe negative feedback would be left. There isn't any way to prove this, but since I switched, customers are friendlier...
