Last night I had an auction close out for $128.00. Today, I received an e-mail from the buyer stating that ebay made a mistake with her bid and she only bid $26.09 and instead ebay bid $2609.00. She says she can't pay me. I wrote her back after looking at the bidding and there isn't any bid for $26.09. Here is how the bidding went:

Apr-05-04 15:44:04 PDT US $128.06 Winning Bidder( 16)

Apr-05-04 18:25:34 PDT US $125.56 Bidder A( 37)

Apr-05-04 18:25:21 PDT US $107.52 Bidder A( 37)

Apr-05-04 18:23:55 PDT US $101.52 Bidder A( 37)

Apr-05-04 18:23:26 PDT US $89.91 Bidder A( 37)

Apr-05-04 18:22:48 PDT US $86.56 Bidder A ( 37)

Apr-05-04 18:22:28 PDT US $81.51 Bidder A( 37)

Apr-05-04 18:21:35 PDT US $75.51 Bidder A( 37)

Apr-02-04 18:57:10 PST US $25.09 Bidder B( 52)

Apr-05-04 15:43:27 PDT US $25.00 Winning Bidder ( 16)

Apr-05-04 15:42:54 PDT US $21.00 Winning Bidder( 16)

Apr-05-04 15:42:12 PDT US $20.00 Winning Bidder ( 16)

Apr-05-04 14:07:12 PDT US $18.50 Bidder C ( 459)

Apr-05-04 09:36:35 PDT US $17.50 Bidder D( 32)

Apr-05-04 06:41:19 PDT US $16.50 Bidder D( 32)

Apr-05-04 06:40:46 PDT US $15.00 Bidder D ( 32)

Apr-04-04 03:29:07 PDT US $12.00 Bidder E( 50)

Mar-31-04 12:03:28 PST US $11.00 Bidder D ( 32)

Mar-29-04 18:47:31 PST US $10.01 Bidder F( 940)

Mar-31-04 12:03:10 PST US $10.00 Bidder D( 32)

Mar-31-04 12:02:52 PST US $7.00 Bidder D( 32)

Mar-29-04 20:48:44 PST US $4.50 Bidder E( 43)

I don't believe what she is telling me, but I could be wrong as I am not that experienced with this. Can anyone explain all this to me, please? She filed a SquareTrade complaint against, which I refuse to answer and told her so. I haven't done anything wrong and unless she is willing to pay the $20.00 for the mediator, I'm not participating.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ebay didn't make the mistake, she did. She bid $2609.00 instead of $26.09. If she doesn't want it for winning bid price, NPB her, offer to second highest bidder, and move on.

Well, it's not that easy. The second chance offer bidder doesn't want to spend that much (even though she did bid it). I was just wondering if she was even telling me the truth because I don't see a bid there for $26.09. I haven't decided how to handle this because I don't know how much of the truth she is telling me. That's why I'm asking for help on this.

bizzycrocheting you wouldn't see the 26.09 cause she didn't bid it ....she bid 2609.00. You won't see that bid either cause whatever her high bid was is were it stops and thats all ebay shows.
Have you ever bid and bought something on ebay ? When you bid say 50.00 and the auction ends at 34.25 your high bid shows at 34.25 even though you would have went to 50.00.
She prolly did bid 2609.00 or just has some early buyers remorse.Either way she gonna be to much trouble.I'd do what max said ,file the npb and relist if the second highest bidder doesn't want it

She simply typed in the wrong bid amount by omitting the period. An honest mistake. Keep sending second chance offers to the next people down your list until someone takes it. 2nd chance offers can be made to more than one person, just not at the same time.

Mistakes cost Money,,,,tell em ta send whatever amount YOU feel covers your expenses and then NO NPB filing. $2600.00 is gonna be BIG fee, and e bay HAS NO Problem collecting it. One guy put 6 whatevers in a snyper progam, so he says,,, He bought six paid for two and cried to me....I said Send me $5.00. nothing came yet,, one more step,, to complete NPB....

What will be , will be.,, Have A Beautiful E bay day.

Actually she did bid $26.09, kind of. She was step bidding and when she bid past the bidder that had $25.09, she thought her bid of $26.09 was in place. That is the amount that would have shown on confermation page telling her that she was the high bidder. The proxy system did that for her. It does sound believable that she did make a mistake when putting in her bid, but what you do from here is a tough one. The way she would have know about the $26.09 is when she bid the $25.00, the highest bid would have shown as $25.09. Then ebay would make you bid at least one dollar more at that point.

I guess I would send a second chance offer to the next highest bidder to see if they want the item. The rest you will have to play by ear. Seeing the bidding pattern here, especially the times only a few seconds apart on her bids, I would be inclined to file the NPB and FVF using the mutual decision to cancel the transaction.

I'd give her the benefit of the doubt (and I'll bet she'll never make that mistake again!). Since the 2nd chance bidder doesn't want it, I'd relist it. Did you get the e-mail addresses of all the bidders? If so, e-mail them that you're relisting the item.

These things happen a lot. Roll with it. But I'm sure you're disappointed it wasn't won for that nice high amount!

The bidder did send me her confirmation page. She did make a mistake. It was a typo with putting the period in the wrong place. She didn't even realize it. Oh well ... easy come easy go. Gosh, I was so excited, too! I'll keep listing
in the hopes that maybe some day I'll have just ONE come through that high for me AND they pay for it!

When I was new on eBay and just learning to snipe I wanted to bid on an old trade card. I was going to bid $21.51 being sure that would be more than enough to beat out the other snipers. With a few seconds to go I placed my bid and hit the submit button as soon as the confirmation screen appeared only to realize as I released the mouse button that it read $2151. Arg! No decimal! I had a few seconds of horror realizing that someone crazier than me could have entered an outragous amount just to be sure of winning. When the winning bid came up as $16 I took a vow never to be so quick on the confirmation again.

Pretty Whiz-Bang that a bidder can rustle up the "confirmation page" if they can't figure out where to put a period.
hmm.
She out bid Bidder A's proxy of 125, because of her typo.
If the 2nd chance bidder thinks it's a shill, she'll be unhappy. But I guess if she doesn't know, and thinks it's a good deal, happiness.
I'd block her, for paragraph one's reason alone.

Japerton - After thinking about it, I decided to block her. I realize it was a mistake, but she totally skewered the bidding on this item. Who knows what would have happened? When I asked her to forward the confirmation page, she told me that she couldn't send it because then she wouldn't have it to prove to ebay. The only thing she would have proved was that she really did bid $2,609.00! LOL ... Anyway, I explained to her that she would still retain a copy in her computer and walked her through forwarding it to me. I really think some people shouldn't be allowed to turn on a computer without a license!

Photo - If that ever happened to me, I would have been bouncing off the walls waiting for the bidding to end.
