I had a bidder ask me if I could get an item to them in two days. I told them sure I could if they pay for it in time. Pay Pal was out of the questions so I suggested Bid Pay (do they still call it that?)

Bidder asks me if I have sent the goods and I told them not until I hear back from Bid Pay that everything is ok with the transaction.

Email from Bid Pay says do not ship.

No reason given. Why does Bid Pay reject some transactions? Stolen cards?

Bidpay[auction payments W.U.] needs to verify the buyer so sometimes there is a slight hold up.They want to be sure its the card holder.

Never ship till you get the second notice from them that its ok to ship. Some hang on till they get the m.o. and others will ship upon the second notice because you are covered.

I love bidpay as a seller and buyer.

Check your account at Western Union Auction Payments (BidPay) to see if the second notice is posted there. Sometimes they can be slow at emailing you the second, confirming, email but it will be posted on your account.

do not ship means do not ship.
the card is no good or the card does not belong to the bidder .

I agree with stop that do not ship means do not ship.

I have had this happen twice. I put on my best "professsional persona" and send an e-mail that states something to the affect that I'm sorry but western union has declined your request. I let them know that I am not privy to the details of the denial and then ask them how (not if) they intend to pay for the item.

Both paid - one worked it out with Western Union, I think she had entered some info incorrectly.

Most of my International buyers use Bidpay, and it can take up to 5 days for the payment to be confirmed from Europe etc. I have called a couple of times, and they have sent out the confirmation right away. 1-800-350-5952

This bidder is in the US. Email said not ship.

She is now over nighting the money to me and sending me her Fed Ex number.

I have never had a rejected Bid Pay before.

sending me her Fed Ex number.

Why?? My advice is never to use someone's U.P.S.or FedEx numbers. you lose all control over the shipping.
If the # turns out to be no good you will get stuck with the bill as your the shipper.

Since their CC was not good for whatever reason I would not trust their FedEx number.

I have never had a rejected Bid Pay before.

Your title money order no good is somewhat misleading as bidpay never send you one. Its your buyer that is the problem.

I will second that.

Never ever use another persons account number to ship an item. If they insist, have them send a call tag or pickup tag (depending on the company). Then at least you know their account is valid as the delivery company will not pickup a call item for an account that is not valid or current.

I will also second that. Never ever use their FedEx account number to ship. They are not getting a discount it they ship FedEx Ground. The price will be the same if you ship it under your account number. The Bidpay denial should be your first red flag. Collect the full amount including shipping,in a negotiable instrument or don't ship.

If you do use their shipping number, then put their name and address as both shipper and recipient. That eliminates the possibility of charges coming back on you.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

BTW - Unless you call, you have no clue why BidPay denied the charge. It could because the bidder entered the wrong item number, put something in the wrong space, private auctions often get denied, etc. If you call BidPay, you can find out if it is a correctable problem. If you explain that your customer seemed a little confused by the process and you just wanted to check and see if the charge was denied because of a correctable error. This is way to find out if the card was denied without actually asking if the card was denied.

the bidder should be the one who inquires why her card is denied.

Stop - it;s a two minute free phone call to find out if the customer is the rampant scam artist that has been implied in this thread that they probably are or if there is a correctable way to get payment from a new bidder who may have simply made a typo when filling out the form.

What I offered was an option on how to deal with the problem as opposed to supposition and commentary.

UPDATE: the bidder overnighted a cashier check. Check was good. They sent me the FED EX paper work from their company filled out.

Why is it risky shipping on someone's account?

You may find out real soon.

You were given good advise and many reasons why not to ship an item by using someones fed-x acct.

Hope this doesn't came back to bite you.

some employer audits their freight bills or use an automated system to compare the shipto on their freight bills to their data base of vendors they do business with and reject those which are not on file.
if your bidder is using her employer account, her employer can refuse to pay.
i have a friend who sells to overseas companies, when they ask for sample, she would ask to use their fed exp intl account so she does not have to pay,,fed exp intl may be very professional, but also most expensive.
sometimes the companies refuse to pay if it runs to a few hundred dollars.
what she does is cancel her own fed exp account so fed exp cant reverse the charge.
