I KNOW this has been asked before but I am hoping things have changed. (One can hope) Rare and antique books go for peanuts on ebay. Is there any other place I can sell these beside the But bay site? (OOps, I meant e- butt, oh no! E- booh Oh dear, I just can't stop myself. E -bay. WHEW I am really tired and I guess kind of silly. Please consider the source)

Thanks so much

amzn is the place for books, but without ISBN number, you may have to open a zshop to list all your antique books.
do a search and see if there are listings of books you have and how they are listed.

I did search and compare on ebay and amazon. I was hoping if not praying for some venue to open up or show up that would be better for these types of items rather than ebay or amazon.

If a really viable site appears, I'm sure we'll all jump over to it. A bookseller on Ebay, personal friend, told me recently that his buyers are complaining that they just cannot browse the way they used to, in subcategories like technical books, science, etc. Ebay was SO wrong to make this huge change. Unless, of course, they really want us to go away. . . .

If you are serious and not entirely wed to the auction format, Alibris.com is the perfect venue.
Apart from hosting individual booksellers, they provide the OP searches for numerous sites such as Amazon, B&N.com, Borders, etc..

This is a better search than alibris-it covers amzn, barnes and noble, alibris, biblio, etc.
Biblio is now part of amzn, but it lists many old out of print books.

Yep, ebay just shot both themselves and the booksellers in the foot, and they don't even seem to notice. I wonder what the argument was for getting rid of the categories in the first place!?!

As for rare and antique books not selling for much on ebay --- it would depend upon the definition of rare and antique. Truth is many old books (especially from the 1800's when bookbinding and paper production was in it's worst days) aren't worth that much to begin with.

Having said that, there are several sites that you can sign up with, but most charge a fee and you might be waiting a long time for the book to sell at the price you believe it's worth. At around $35.00/month + commission, you can quickly exhaust the value of the book.

What kind of "rare and antique books" are we talking about?

There is a discount/premium built into the bid price on ebay.
Some bid higher as they think these books are truly rare and antique as Ebay has a reputation for rare and unusual items, some bid lower as they think ebay is a place where sellers lurk and scam.
here today and gone tomorrow.
Some tend to trust a site dedicated to books only a better place to buy as sellers are professional book dealers, notice the way they describe the condition of the book and the large inventory of books they have.
i mean large inventory of books,not large inventory of books,rubber ducks,bakelite jewelry,tin toys,resin teddy bears,quilts and whatelse?

For sellers, the answer is that there is still no good place to go that doesn't charge a monthly fee. A site with no monthly fee and extended listing period might be a good opportunity for some entrepreneurial person.

I have tried selling antique books with a value of $100 for $20 on ebay and gotten poor results.

why do you expect no monthly fee??
how do you expect them to pay their bills??
a book listed on amzn marketplace sells faster than a book idling in zshop, but what price you have to pay-99 cents transaction fee and 15% commission.

But you can sell on Alibris...Amazon searches pull up your inventory as a saleable item...as do B&N.com, Books-A-Million, Chapters, etc..
Please visit the site and you'll see what I mean..

i dont think barnes & noble.com is going to show up on amzn search as saleable ,orderable item.
er hamilton, strand, powell, alibris have all been invited to join amzn.
e r hamilton has it own website but it sells more on amzn, making hardly any money after forking over 15 % to amzn.

I would gladly pay 99 cents and 15% to be able to list old books, or even more than that.
