The last month and a half I have an high number of international bidders win auctions. The problem is a good percentage don't read that PayPal is only accepted for US buyers with a confirmed address.

Yes, I have the logo in my auction with a disclaimer about my policy and a note to read my TOS for more info. Some buyers no prob. Others tell me that unless they can pay PayPal, they can't pay. One wanted me to let his US friend pay and them I ship to him in his country.

I've decided, since I'm on my way out of business, to drop to only US and Canada for now. Seems like the most problems come from Europe. Thinking of dropping my PayPal preferred so I can add the Western Union Auction Payments logo too.

Sorry, had to vent some.

Seth - have you actually ever had problems with european buyers and their paypal payment or are you just in fear of them?

I've taken in thousands of dollars of payments for the UK and can count the problems I have had on one hand and most of them were my own fault.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Nope, nor did I say I did. I decided on this policy just to fall into the seller protection with PayPal. Wouldn't say I "fear" them more as just don't want to take the chance.

And most of my europe buyers seem to be from Norway, Netherlands, Greece, etc. I don't get too many UK buyers who have issues wiuth the no PayPal thing.

I may, just for laughs, change the policies and see if any thing happens. I've only got a few handfuls worth of inventory left so it MAY help in the liquidation process.

Your Netherlands customers actually pay? Holy Cow! I have had probably two dozen winning biders from the Netherlands over the years - I think one actually paid.

I think I had one pay. I think one (or it may have been a German buyer) tell me his bank didn't know what a money order was and it was either PayPal or he had to "cancel his order".

1. No paypal problems ever with international buyers.

2. I'd let that foreign buyer's U.S. friend pay with paypal, then ship to the foreign buyer. What would be the problem with that?

3. However - I don't sell high-end things. Rarely over $100. Perhaps you've been stung in the past with high-value sales?

1. I've actually never done it, so I don't know if there would be problems or not.

2. The lack of the seller protection is the main reason behind this.

3. Neither do I. I sell (actually, it's almost sold) in the Action Figure (and a little comics) catergory. Some reason, I think I read an article about the toy category being high in buyer fraud. I may be dreaming that up, though.

Never been stung.

I never had a problem with fraud- just deadbeats -when it came to selling action figures. Ironicalyl it was the under $10 ones that were a problem - anything over $50 was same day and 2 that I sold for over $200 both managed to paid before I even got the EOA notice from ebay. I have a few more high end pieces to seel but I'm going to wait until Christmas buying season comes around again.
