Is it impolite to solicit feedback?

I'm finding if I leave feedback and don't request it from a winning bidder, I only get a 30-50% feedback response. But, when I leave feedback and request it (using the "wording" below), I'm getting 80-90%, all of which is positive.

"I don't charge extra for handling or packaging since I'd much rather receive your positive feedback - provided, of course, you are 100% pleased with our transaction. If you are not, I trust you will e-mail me ASAP with any problems or issues."

PS. One of my recent winning bidders said it was impolite to solicit feedback. PLEASE advise. TIA - this VENDIO Community Bulletin Board has been VERY helpful. Keep your comments coming!

We stick a nice little note in with the packages we send out ... we write the item number on the lil' paper, and we say something like this on it ... "Thank you for your business! We really appreciate it. Please leave feedback for us at ebay if you are pleased with your item. But keep in mind we are allergic to neutral and negative feedback so if there are any problems, please email us at [email protected] in an effort to resolve."

Then we as them to check our website too, where no reasonable offers are refused.

This works for us.

------------
And when do you leave feedback for your buyers? ... we leave our positive remarks right when we are ready to package up the items for shipment, because that is what keeps ME most organized in the 'assembly line' of ebay. .... that has come back to bite me just several times over thousands of transactions, so no big deal.

I leave feedback as soon as I have shipped the purchase. I email the buyeer & tell them that their purchase is on its way & that I have left them a + feedback & hope if they are satisfied that they will do the same for me. It has worked very well for me. My TOS states I will ship within 24 hrs of receipt of payment & I do.

NEVER give it First as a seller.I mean, what would YOU say? THEY are the FINAL Judge and if THEY are,,,,, Dissatisfied and NEG you,YOUR screwed! It ain't over till THEY get the Goods...Are you in this for feed back or for selling? Selling is my game. If I never hear from them, all the better.

The ONLY time you EVER hear someone come out of K Mart and give feed back at the TOP of their Lungs is WHEN they GOT screwed!

Better example, the CAR dealer, the car on the side of the CURB in FRONT of the DEALERSHIP,,,,,I got a LEMON....

Otherwise.........

Hi all,

I used to leave feedback as soon as I was paid. But, mostly based on what I read here, I changed my mind a while ago.

This is from the letter I put in every outgoing package:

"Here’s the item you purchased from me on eBay.

I hope you’re pleased! I’d appreciate knowing it has arrived safely so I can leave feedback.

A pleasant comment from you would be most welcome, assuming all’s well with your purchase. If not please let me know right away!

Thank you for bidding."

If the buyer writes to let me know they got their package and are satisfied, or leaves me feedback, I leave a positive comment for them. I don't particularly keep track but it seems like I'm getting a higher amount of feedback since I started doing this.

I've never had a neutral or a negative. Maybe because I don't leave it for them until they either leave it for me or let me know they're happy has prevented the inevitable not-all-that-pleased buyer from leaving a bad comment.

And now, as Jack says, back to Charles.

Lucy

I have never asked for a feedback. I always leave it as I think that is my obliqation but many times I never get it back. It doesn't mean much to me unless they leave a negative and I sure hope I am not surprised someday.

To tired to type tonight...

While it is OK to ask nicely for feedback once, hounding someone for it is a no-no, and threatening to withhold feedback until you get it yourself is,well, a bit sordid.

I leave feedback the day I mail out an item and send an email stating I have mailed the item & left feedback. Just about everyone leaves me feedback in return. If they don't, se la vie. I have 100% positive feedback.

I couldn't care less about it- I havent mentioned it in years to a customer.

If it shows up at my name, I look and reciprocate, otherwise the only time I give it is if it's a newby who asks for it specifically, then I explain I'll reciprocate as soon as they post mine.

Last 30 days-sold 100 items, received 43, gave 46.

I agree with Jackswebb - never leave feedback until they receive the widget, are happy with it and leave you a positive. Then you leave it. No No No
