Sorry I couldn't make a link. This is a $661.00 real post card. I don't think I've ever seen one go for so much. Anyone?

i would like to know the reason the picture was ever taken? to show off their muscles? to show off their ribs? I would feel so safe knowing that crew were defending me.

of course i would like to have about 3 or 4 of those to sell.

I know nothing about postcards...so the question I'm going to ask may sound totally stupid...

Were real photo postcards 'mass produced' and sold to the general public?

Hehehe new screensaver glassgrl...

I wonder if the price went up so high because one of these men (or his family) wanted to get it out of circulation...

Real photo post cards were mass produced but you could buy photo printing paper in packs that was cut to size with the post card back printed on (in fact you still can). Many cameras at the time took post card size and format negatives and if you look at the back of many of the photos in early 20th century family albums you will find a post card back.

Seems most likely that this was an amateur effort by the people involved although if it was a commercial output it may have been a small "under the counter" effort that would not necessary have identifying information on the back.

First of all here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3290668278

What a great card! RPPC or Real Photo Post Cards were not massed produced and could even be produced by the "home photographer".

The PMC postcard backs were produced 1920-1935 so I think the seller is a little "off" in saying WWII vintage and not sure they are American soldiers (hard to tell from the uniforms)

I would bet that one or two of the subjects in the photo (or their relatives) drove the price up, but perhaps it is that it is so unusual! I love the neckties!

Wish I had found it!!

I think it is the subject matter that drove the price up. How could anyone recognize Grandpa in that group. Did you notice that some of the men are in black face and one in some kind of party hat? What is the story with the fully dressed men? Were they not part of some kind of theatrical presentation or just shy?

Actually, the seller said WWI vintage, which I agree with.

I would love to know the story behind this card. I'll bet it's hysterical. Come to think of it, maybe these guys lost a bet.
