I'm stumped with this platter. I think it may be Japanese, but I am unsure. Late 19th, early 20th century? I know the blue is transfer decorated, but I don't believe the green is. Without a mark, I'm going by the design on the back. What's your opinion? Forgive the pics, took them fast. Also, I don't think (due to the colors) this was made for the western market. Any opinion on that?

Thanks, stop. Japanese is what I thought, too. I found it tucked away in the corner of an antiques shop in Millersburg, OH last year. Because there's a chip on the back she sold it to me for $12. I thought it was a steal. I've never seen the color combination before, but it sure looks great together. Because it's transfer decorated I wouldn't date it before mid-19th century. This is going to be a tough one to research. I've stopped trusting gotheborg. They were way off on a couple of pieces I have, which I ended up taking to a professional. One goblet they said 20th century and it turns out to be mid 18th century. That's too far off for my comfort level.
