Hi all,

I got a shipping notice from PayPal. The seller used PayPal Shipping with U.S. Postal Service to create a shipping label for my package.

The notice had the seller's complete name and street address in it, not just the city and state that comes in the item won email.

From what I read here, some sellers are sensitive about their actual address being known. I thought if you fall in that group and have been using PayPal shipping you might want to know your complete address does go to the buyer.

The buyer is going to have it anyway, when the package arrives, so what does it matter?

Yes, ordinarily they do but I use my PO box for the return address, not my street address.

I suppose it depends on what is in PayPal's records.

I don't see anything wrong with that. My buyer gets my name and address when I send my EOA notice.

So do mine, Libra. As I said, some here seem to be sensitive about it is all.

I think you can change the return address? I'm not sure because I've never tried it before. They can get your address by requesting your information from eBay anyway. So I don't see what the harm is.

Cheryl - you do not ge t the street address from ebay when you request info.

I would hope that those that do not wish their home address known use a box address for PayPal as well but there may be some that do not.

Since my credit cards and bank statements also go to my box thenn my confirmed address is not my home but I know that is not the case for all and sellers definately should be able to edit their return address info for mailing purposes within PayPal.

Cheryl, the big deal is simply common sense security and safety.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

I don't see anything wrong with putting your name & address on the return label. I ship a lot of china by FedEx Ground & always put my return address on the pkg. Same when I ship Priority Mail & use P/P to print postage. As it was stated the buyer knows your address from the EOA. There must be a bunch of paranoid people out there.

Sanmar - I truly hope that you never have the privledge of your very own stalker but if you do, I also hope that you never encounter the self righteous ignorance of someone who then shrugs off your common sense actions as simple paranoia.

Of course there is also the issue of you providing daily advertisements broadcast across the Internet of the partial contents of your home and freely giving out the address.

Enacting safeguards is not paranoia it's simply common sense... and all for less that $10 a month.

If a seller refuses to send me their address, they get the automatic neg.

I get notices often from sellers that don't have their address in it, I send them an e-mail stating that I wish to send them a money order. Usually, I will get their address that way, then I send paypal.

Never ever buy anything from anyone that refuses to give your there address. Too much risk for buyers not to know that. And as far as the crap about stalkers. If you as a seller have a problem with that, then you shouldn't be a seller.

Stone - do you ask for an address or do you deman the residential address? Too very different animals. I have two addresses. One is residential and one is where all mail goes to and is the return address on all packages.

As for the stalker comment - why am I not shocked that you are still again an insensitive *ss. Why would I allow the actions of one person dictate to me that I will never run my own business when I can just rent a mailbox and be done with it.

There are any number of ways a person can get your address if they want it bad enough. Having an unlisted phone number or PO box is really useless. Unless you somehow wipe your address out of every public, government or other record, you are findable.

Using the PO Box for your address is fine if you are within a short distance to a post office. It takes me 10 minutes to get to mine and to make that trip daily to check for checks and money orders with gasoline here at $2.14 a gallon, it makes no sense to me. Using a PO Box doesn't guarantee your safety from staulkers, which is evident by any number of women killed by their ex-husbands while in hiding. Use a PO box for your own peace of mind, but don't count on it to keep you safe or hidden.

Cheryl - you might be surprised how easy it is to hide iif you need to, or even if you just want to. Because of the publicity behind stalking incidents in recent years utilitiy companies can be very helpful if you know to ask. As for the mailbox - I won't go into details but there are additonal steps you can go thru with those too.

The easiest way to locate someone however is not via utilities, it's via employment.

As for the convenience of the location of the post office... don't you have to go there anyway when you ship? I don't use a PO Box, I use a mailbox address and those can be found on nearly every corner these days.

Fenix,

All I can say is Duh. How stupid a comment demanding for a residential address. I as a buyer am purchasing a product from a business. So the business address is what is needed. Now if the business happens to be out of your home, then you cannot complain about stalkers. Buyers for their own protection must get the address of their seller so in the case of seller fraud, they can at least have a fighting chance at resolution. I do insist on having the address, I don't demand it in my e-mail to the seller. Heck, I want a good relationship with this person too, but I will not send a single penny without the address.

To paraphrase someone here, it might even be you. If common sense is so common, how come so many people don't have it.
