I was finally billed for the April invoice the last day in May, and the money was taken out of my bank account on the 1st of June.

Then, June 2nd I get my invoice for May (just as I usually do on the 1st or 2nd of every month) it tells my balance due and then says this amount will be taken out of my bank on June 20th (always comes out on the 20th so no surprises there).

Then, today I get this email from Ebay:

Advance Billing Notice

Hello Linda XXXXXXX:

We are writing in regards to the monthly invoice that you have just received for your seller's account E8xxxxx janedoe. As you are probably aware, the delivery and billing for this invoice has been delayed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

As of this date, our records show that this invoice amount has not been paid in full. If you have made a payment in the last few days, please disregard this notice. We are writing today to give you advance notice of when eBay will be charging this invoice amount of $xxxx, to the payment method you have on file for billing.

Our records show you have a bank account or credit/debit card on file for billing. Please ensure that adequate funds are available in your account for the invoice amount of xxxxx. eBay will be charging your billing method in the next 2 to 8 days.

We do not recommend that you make a 1-time payment now, because your 1-time payment may not post before eBay's billing attempt will begin. Your 1-time payment may result in a duplicate payment.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to collecting payment for your invoice, and are anxious to keep you as an active member of the User Community.

NOTE: Please be aware certain persons in the past have attempted to gather sensitive customer data by fraudulently representing themselves to be eBay, by requesting our Users to enter their account information and billing information into fraudulent websites. You can protect yourself by selecting the links yourself directly from the eBay home page, using the instructions that eBay will provide in its emails to you.

Regards,

eBay Global Collections Group

So, what is this all about? Anyone know? The billing WAS NOT delayed...the payment is not BEHIND...and it should come out on the 20th. If they wait the 8 days then it is just about on schedule but still, why the threatening tone:

"We look forward to collecting payment for your invoice, and are anxious to keep you as an active member of the User Community."

And, why the email in the first place? Very strange! Anyone else get this "collection" letter?

Lindajean...I got the same one today. I suspect that because of the delays and glitches on a few accounts earlier this month, every seller will get one. It's a shotgun mailing so they can cover all bases.

Mine was different...

Here's part of it:

"Recently you received your delayed April invoice for your eBay seller's account XXX. We are writing to let you know that you will be receiving your May invoice shortly. If you have an automatic payment method on file, funds will be deducted for the invoiced amount approximately 5 - 10 days later, depending upon your payment method. Please ensure that adequate funds are available in your account for the payments.

We understand that invoicing and billing your account for two different billing cycles in one month is not optimal. Please be assured that this is not the normal eBay billing process. We appreciate your patience in this matter."

The rest was a lot of blah-blah about an information discussion thread in the eBay Community area.

My bill goes on my PayPal account so it doesn't make any difference to me. I allow for it when using my PayPal money and figure they'll get around to billing me when they want to.

I wonder why some of us got a different notice?

Lucy

Lucy,

Probably because they said they had not taken your April payment yet. They did take mine on the first.

While I do have the money in the account, I just wondered why the "bill collector" tone for a May invoice that was not even supposed to be paid until the 20th and why they are taking it earlier than they are supposed to?

Essentially what happened was that the bandits who go out and fleece ths sellers each month stopped off at a saloon for a week of celebration and were late getting the loot back to Meg's hideout. As punishment, she's sending them back out early to collect this month.

The April payment came out of my PayPal on June 5th.

Yeah, that bill collector tone IS kinda stinky! To me, mine was just a normal notice telling me about the delay.

Oh well, who can know?

I got the same notice about 2 weeks ago. I think that they are just warning you that a big bill is coming and to make sure you have funds available..but since they already collected your payment the timing doesnt make much sense. I didn't appreciate the tone either..it's THEIR fault they didn't take the money out when it was due! It's been sitting in the account all the time! In fact, they don't WANT you to make a manual payment to rectify the problem so the tone is totally unnecessary!

Agreed. The tone is what I took exception to. I make sure I always keep the Ebay fees available from each weeks sales. But they definitely had the tone that I had better shape up and be sure to have the funds available to pay my bill...and I didn't appreciate that part.

I've been paying Ebay every month for 5 years now and never a day late!

Edited to correct that statement. I took two years off selling from 2000 to 2002 so I didn't have any Ebay bills during that time

I got that same email (the first one mentioned) and also thought that, "We look forward to collecting payment for your invoice" was in bad taste.

I guess I've been lucky because my billing is not behind. My billing just seems rather high for this month. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm being overcharged. I think it's probably a good idea to pay closer attention to what we are being billed for.
