Good morning everyone ! I need a creative mind to help me describe this necklace or give it a title that might come up in a search. It's marked 925 so it's silver and the pearls passed the teeth test (ack ! like chalk on a chalk board lol I'll be spitting for weeks) So i'm 99% sure the pearls are real but I don't want anyone to think I chewed on them lol (kiara I still think about your story of the lady that chewed your necklace up) Silver Leaves and Pearl Flowers Necklace ...is about the best I can think of. Measures approx. 17 inches long and looks like it's marked Emma but the first letter is really faded...theres one EMMA silver on ebay right now and it's Taxco but this one doesn't say Taxco but theres not a lot of room to mark it...HELP !!

Would doubt that it is from Taxco since pearls were never used in Mexican silver to my knowledge. If anyone knows better, please corrct me. Also does not like it is Mexican Mexican silver generally was marked with some sort of an assey mark and country of origin.

Hi Toasted,
You might have already seen this completed auction but if not take a look. There's a pretty good close-up of the mark in it.

I don't know much about jewelry but maybe Fluffy or some of the other experts will pop in and help.

Hi toasted !
LOL that you remember the lady that chewed up my faux pearls.
Sorry, I can't help you with your necklace as the only Emma I can find associated with sterling silver is Taxco, Mexico as others have said.
There are some jewelry designers in Mexico that do use pearls so I'd mention it in the auction. Here are a couple of links. Good luck with it.

toasted, I had a feeling you would have possibly found those threads because you are so good at searching.
Hi Lucy! Long time no "see" even though I peek in here now and again. The weather is super so I've been out hiking and gardening and all the other fun things in life and haven't even done any auctions in over a week now.

Hi Kiara, I've been out and about too! Getting ready for my son's wedding the end of July. A full-on Indian ceremony.
Here's a pic of my wedding duds. Should be interesting seeing as how I'm usually in jeans and a T-shirt. I think DIL's Mom figured wrapping me in a sari in time for 8:00 am pics wasn't a really great idea!

That's amazing workmanship in that, Lucy. Is the top part all hand stitched or hand embroidered? You will look beautiful.
BTW, I'm a jeans and t-shirt person also.

It is really a stunning outfit - all hand-beaded, made of silk. From Gujarat, India.
The whole wedding thing starts on Thursday with mindi or mendi or however it's spelled. That's the painting of the hands and forearms with henna. I'm included in that!
Friday is a religious ceremony.
The wedding itself is on Saturday. Starts at 9:00 and runs until about 12:30, then there's a break until the reception, which begins at 6:30 and goes on into the wee smalls.
I think it will be quite an experience, to say the least.
Hmmmm....

It does sound like quite an experience, Lucy. Henna painting has been popular here for several years now. Will you be getting "lace gloves" painted on? Some of the saris are very beautiful as are many of the Indian women.

Thank you, Libra. Sneha is truly a treasure. A wonderful young woman. I'm so happy she'll be part of my family.
Did you know in the Indian culture the bride goes to the groom's family? As in I'm to take care of her and she's to be there for me? At the engagement party her Mom just kept hold of my hand, saying, please, please take good care of my Sneha. I was so touched...
Kiara, I'm not sure how far up my arms the henna will go but it will be beautiful however it's done. There were a couple of hundred people at the engagement party. All the ladies in their beautiful saris. Sneha is beautiful too. An Indian princess if ever there was one. Yes, quite an experience.

Toasted, The more I look at the pictures the more I think there might be a second mark on one of the other leaf shapes. Have you looked at all of them? The Emma Melendez attribution makes sense to me. Lucy

Lucy,
What a beautiful gown, you will be so lovely.
When you said Indian wedding my first thought was American Indian & then I scrolled & saw the gown. My first thought was it's beautiful, but I never saw an Indian in satin!
Guess I was expecting feathers.......
Went to a Hari Krishna wedding once, very nice & actually a lot of fun. The brides hands & feet were painted, but no one else.
She wore a red sari.

Here is a link that shows Mehndi or henna painting on the hands. It's an interesting read about the tradition, especially the liberation from housework and chores.

Hi McJane,
It's "dot not feather." Indian, that is. My son and Sneha joke about it all the time.
There were a lot of pure silk satin saris at the engagement party. Gold brocade and edges, a lot of hand beading, etc. Unbelievably beautiful!
The wedding is Hindu. Her wedding sari will be red and white, as Gujarati tradition states.
Quite a few people in the wedding ceremony, including me, will have mehndi adornments on hands and feet. Not only women, men too.
Just for fun, here's a link about mehndi. http://www.crystalinks.com/henna.html

Lucy, your link has way better pictures and more info. I love the third picture down of the hand. You'll have to get some pics taken and then post them here so we can see the painting.

Lucy...That's the exact same sari that fortune teller was wearing two years ago when she told me I could get rich if I bought stock in Enron.

Hi Toasted,
Yeah, it's gonna be quite a bash!
I see you got your necklace listed last night. I was Googling Emma Melendez this morning. Seems she was the owner of a taller (workshop) and had more than one designer working for her. Opened in 1953, closed in 1971. I wonder if you put Mexico in the title more would find it?
Anyway, good luck with it and I apologize for highjacking your thread!

Sparkz - you nut!
Actually, it's not a sari. The outfit has it's own name, but I can't remember what it is. The words are gargled rather than spoken, if you get my drift.

I'll add to the hijack
One of the most fun and just gorgeous weddings I've ever seen on the Wedding Channel was an Indian dot wedding. It was very touching and spiritual but yet it was glamorous, loving and high spirited at the same time. Have a blast!
