My husband and I have been "orphans" for the last 5 years, with no parent, mother or father, for either of us. These mother's and father's day celebrations are a bit sad, in a way, for us--seeing the greeting cards in the stores and having no one to send them to.
If you still have a living parent or parents, give them an extra hug from all us orphans today, please!

Roadsmith,
We went to dinner with a very close couple last night. Having lost my dad many years ago and stepdad earlier this year, I told them in conversation that this was the first year I had no one to call. “Nonsense,” was the reply from my friend’s wife. “Rudy’s a dad, call him.”
It was a great idea and made my night!
Surly you have a good friend who’s a father. Call and wish him a happy fathers day. He’ll appreciate it and so will you. I promise.

Artnouveau: Great idea. I have a cousin who's a father, in Canada, and I'm overdue to call him. (I wonder if they celebrate Father's Day there, too?) I'll call tonight.
