For the first time since being online, 7yrs, I truly am fed up with the internet.
Countless and I mean countless pop-ups some in dos mode hinder my activities nearly impossible. Spywear? Adwear? Both?
Countless emails in scrambled or misspelled text to sneak through spam blocking systems. Promises of lower mortages and bigger penis's and a few things I cant mention here.
The "Trojan Horse" virus my Norton keeps reminding me I have even though it tells me the files have been deleted.
An assortment of green and brown error text messages that end your session where it stands.
Now I hear the government is concerned about a new virus supposedly carried around by mega sites such as Yahoo. Viruses that are passed to your PC just by going to the sites.
At this point its hard to say the azzholes who run the dirty world of viruses and popups are not winning. Pretty soon there will be an economy-stopping day of dread launched on the internet and I dont think its far off...

Yep,anothe victim of BURNOUT! You need a vacation. Perfect Rx: Take a 2 week trip to a 3rd world country. No electricity, no indoor plumbing, no water. Hey, no INTERNET. Return and YOU WILL SING a different tune. My neighbor works for "The Company" flying pipeline security, guess where? His stories make my hairs stand on end - no kidding! FYI, I have 'wavely' hair, ie, 1 hair waves at the other. Bon Voyage, Gordie

Hello
One thing you need to ask yourself is what is your ISP (Internet service provider) doing to combat all this stuff?
Mine (Cox)has a real spam guard that you can tailor. At first I wanted the spam to be marked SPAM but sent to me. That got old fast then I said to send it to my delete file, which I could open preview and close which would dump it all. After a while I realized that was a waste of time as well so I set it up so my ISP dumps all spam I don't even see it.
Second my ISP provider provides a good virus filter of which has caught dozens of virus. As of 01 July I will not even be notified the virus will be just dumped. I still have Norton for web site virus etc and as a safety net.
Third my ISP has provided a POP-UP killer program which I opped for and it works well
I also have a free program (not from my ISP)
called spybot which kills many ad-ware and tracking cookies.
So if you have grief look to see what you ISP has to offer as there may be help you don't know of. If you have a cheap ISP with no help, well you get what you pay for.

Computers need maintenance. I restore my computer every 6 months or so. I erase the hard drive and re-install the software and it keeps my computer running like new. And it's the only way to get rid of some viruses. I use Spybot everyday to get rid of spyware.
To get rid of the spam, simply change your email addresses and don't give them out except when absolutely necessary. Use a separate email address for shopping.

Hmmm..... or all you Windows users could just switch to an Apple! Won't necessarily stop all the SPAM... (although their filtering in their Mail program is pretty good...) however, OSX doesn't have problems with Spyware/Adware... Pop-ups are mostly eliminated by their Safari browser... and to date, only one Virus has been developed for OSX, and it was developed in a lab-environment, not actually out in circulation. I gotta tell you... I really like being able to get my work done on my Apple... rather than constantly trying to get a Windows machine to work!

Even if you don't want to switch to a Mac, which is the preferred way to rid yourself of all these demons, there are ways to deal with it on your Pee-See. First, get rid of Microsoft Internet Exploder and mail. There are other browsers available, most with advanced pop up blocking preferences built in.
Microsoft is irrelevant and unnecessary. I haven't seen a popup in 3 years, since switching to Mac OS X and banishing M$ products of all kind from my machine.....
What's spyware???

The latest version of AOL (V9) has an awsome popup blocker that lets no popups whatsoever get through. All their email is scanned for viruses (or is it viri?) before it goes into your inbox. They have a discount worked out with McAfee for auto-updating (every 4 hours) anti virus software available through their site which is billed monthly on your account. With the addition of Spybot Search and Destroy ( latest AUTHENTIC version available free from their site) spyware is a thing of the past. Of course, if you don't want to go the AOL route, you can select any hole in the wall discount ISP and dump the buggy browser Microsoft puts out and use Opera instead. The full blown version is free but there is one small ad on the home page that is not objectionable. The latest version is fully customizable so you can make your Ebay pages look exactly like they would with MSIE. With all the free options available today, there is absolutely no reason you should have to put up with the conditions you describe. You may also want to pay a visit to TrendMicro and run their housecall program to double check Norton, because the error codes you spoke of indicate that it is highly likely you may have a virus.
