I'm really being asked to deal with a bunch of oddities right now. LOL! This thing is one of them. Not sure what it's age is. It belonged to the aunt of my boss (he's 65). He said that when she would lay it on her arm and would pet it softly, it moved like it was alive. Anyone ever seen one of these? I'm not sure what kind of fur it might be. Lamb, maybe? It's not a soft fur, but a rough fuzzy fir. It's about 14" long so it's not a small thing.

Where the heck would you list it? What would you call it? I don't think it's intended to be a toy, but I could be wrong. It does have googly eyes. IMO, it's an ugly furry thing. Surely someone has seen a similar one somewhere!

Maybe it's one of Ralphie's playmates? All he remembers about it is his aunt making it move when he was around 13 and it scaring the bejesus out of him. LOL! And he's a doctor. Personally, it scares me now.

I don't know what it is, but when you list it make sure you use the word "Roadkill" in the title.

Don't remember what it's called:
But!
You used to see them on TV.
They were for sale, when I was a kid I had one.

You attach a sting and pull it around.
You used to see magicians use them, they would pull them up their pant leg or out their sleeve.

Roadkill, LOL! That's exactly what it looks like! I don't even know where to search for such a thing on eBay, that is if I can get the search feature to even work.

Does it look like a muskrat to anyone else? This is really a hard one. That's the only animal that comes to mind when I look at it.

I'm guessing 1950's because my boss was in his teens then (born in 1938). Thankfully, my parents didn't see fit to buy me one of these dreadful things in the 1950's!

It looks like those bug-eyed screaming tarsiers (yes, a tarsier is a real animal) that are on the irritating Subway (sandwich) commercials that were coming on until a month or so ago.

Here is the insane home made video that the commercial was based on:

http://www.rathergood.com/moon_song/

For fun, check out the other videos at

http://www.rathergood.com

Warning - some of the videos are not for the kids or small pets. But some are VERY funny.

OOPS! I JUST CHECKED THE SITE OUT AGAIN. IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED BY NUDITY, SEX, ETC, do not visit. It is not a porn site, but some of the videos do contain images some may find offensive.

Anyway, I've never seen the arm-crawler before. Definitely looks like road-kill!

Have fun!

It's a long haired mixed breed catfish.

Cheryl -- I don't know if it's that old. I was born in '64 and I remember something like that. I have been trying to pull in the memory all day, but I can't. I do remember something similar to it though. I want to say a creepy-crawly, but I know that's not it. Try doing a search for unusual toys. I do remember it though.

This has to be the '50s. Harry would have been in his 20's by 1960. By 18 he was already in med school no where near home. I'm sure they were around for a long time, though.

Cheryl -- They must have been around for a while. I do remember them. I wish I could pull the memory for you and give it a name, but maybe it's best that it's blocked. I don't know what it was associated with in my youth!

it definitely is later than the 50's. around the time of pet rocks, remember those?
we all wore tent dresses with poofed hair. paper dresses were made (why didn't i buy 20 of those?). everyone wore these fake wigs that were like hats only very ugly. and these things were just a whimsy item. i cannot remember the name for them though.

It's a Tribble, you know from Star Trek the first series, The Trouble With Tribbles.

No, I don't think it's a tribble. Aren't those round furry things?

This looks like a toy sold off & on at Cracker Barrel Restaurants??

It's attached to a ball-device & rotates all over the place, appearing to be "alive"

At least, it looks like it to me...

Bizzy: weren't creepy crawlies the plastic spiders and ugly bugs you made in a mold with some gook in a bottle?

I remember these things. I was born in 1960. If they had a name its beyond me. They were around with pet rocks, the invisible dog on a leash, mood rings and fuzzy wuzzy figurine soaps...lol memory lane!!

I remember those soaps! The ones by Avon are worth quite a bit now. My brothers had the creepy crawly things. Toys were so much better in the 50s and 60s!

Do any of you remember what that school glue with the plastic tab that was attached to the inside of the lid tasted like?? Think hard, you were probably 5 or 6 when you first tasted it.

According to my granddaughter's teacher, they still do eat it! I remember putting Elmer's glue on my palms and then peeling it off! LOL! Yes, I do remember the paste. Remember mimeographs? Anyone remember loving the smell of the papers the teachers used to hand out? Come on, some honest school age nasty habits, we all had 'em.

Yes, yes the mimeographs and the way the papers with the smudged blue ink smelled, if I remember correctly it was kinda a sweet nutty/popcorn sort of smell. 40 years ago at age 5 and still that smell makes me homesick.

This reminds me of the pet rock but I think it came out before that. You pet it and it moves like a cat when you pet it. No strings. It just sits there and you run your hand over it. I don't think it came with those eyes though. Seems to me it had no eyes at all. Kind of like the star trek's gerbles. (I think that's what they were called) I don't know what it's called. It's been a long day and my brain is on over time. Sorry I cnouldn't be more help

::Kind of like the star trek's gerbles.::

Tribbles (not a trekkie - just loved the title of that episode - The Trouble with Tribbles)

I remember the fuzzy moving thing the same as you do Paloma - no strings to pull, etc, it just laid there and a ripple would pass through it as you "pet" it. The onne I remember though was thinner than they one shown in this thread. It reminded me of a flat ferret.

Cheryl - just say it is the pelt of the elusive but infamous Snipe. Not sure if it is a midwest or southern thing but I know I had a great time as a kid being victimised by nocturnal hunts for the little critters on camping trips and even more fun victimizing friends later in life during moonlit "Snipe Hunts".

Yeah or a mink. They weren't as wooly as that thing.

You guys are great! I'm just going to make it a fun auction and use all your name suggestions! If it doesn't sell, I'll keep it to terrorize future granddchildren! LOL!

I've searched and searched the Internet and can't find this buggers anywhere. They are either referred to by a really obscure name or they are fairly rare. Afterall, they were probably played with until they fell apart. Who knows how many infamous Snipes fell victim to the automobile and became roadkill? Who knows how many of them are laying in the woods left behind by some forgetful child and now waiting for their next victim to appear?

What fun this will be!

chimpchamp

It may have been thinner in its youth. The poor dear has been so lonely over the years from having been left in a bag in a dark lonely closet that he's begun eating uncontrollably. Seriously though, it appears to have been hand made. The stitching on the back is not machine done. It is definitely hand stitched.

Cheryl -- I had a dream last night about your ugly furry thing! LOL ...
