If an auction (with a starting price and buy-it-now) has no bids on it, and then someone bids, and they bid more than the buy-it-now price; does it not go direcly into the buy-it-now??

No, their bid will be the starting bid. Once they bid it is no longer a BIN. It only goes for the BIN price if they click on the BIN button.

Very interesting reply. The system is suppose to work with an opening bid at the BIN or higher, end the auction at that point with a BIN, but with all the glitches that ebay has, it is likely that case that you must click the BIN for it to happen.

It has always been that way. If you bid over the BIN price, you get a message asking you if you want to BIN. When you bid you are taking the chance that no one else will bid. But maybe you want it bad enough to pay more and hope you don't have to.

I have had it happen & it really surprised me the first time. From what I understand, if the first bidm is higher than the BIN, then that is the high bid. It can still be beat by a higher bid. I can't verify this/
