"ebaY is conducting a survey to get feedback on how sellers
would feel if ALL sellers were REQUIRED to offer PayPal. It
looks as if ebaY is trying to move in a direction that would force
all sellers to use PayPal on the ebaY US site."

I say: Just who the heck are in this "survey"???! This is America. They should email every ebay member that has sold an item on ebay, for a vote, and ask that preposterous question.

Was there any doubt in anyone's mind that this would be very far behind after they purchased Paypal. We had a very lively discussion in another thread about this very matter. There is not a law written in the California Codes to prevent them from doing this. I'm sure their legal staff has researched this thoroughly and feels that it's perfectly legal to require all ebay members, both buyers and sellers to use Paypal. However, there's one thing even the most brilliant corporate lawers often overlook. It's the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. Be prepared for a major court battle and years of injunctions and litigation it they try to do it.

...and the reason we no longer sell on Amazon auction is that we can't offer Amazon Payments since we don't have a US billing address, even though we do have a US checking account and credit/debit cards but Amazon wasn't interested in our business so eBay got it instead.

If all eBay sellers were required to accept PayPal then we'd have to have buyers send us photocopies of the front and back of their credit cards or bank statements, plus use "signed for" international courier for all shipments paid for by PP.

all sellers who sell on amzn marketplace have to use amzn one click for payments,so far so good.
i have buyers from finland and norway and rest of western europe, amzn seems to screen them well.

Dont waste your time and money on asking for statements and getting signature.Unless paypal amends its policy,it wont even bother to use the evidence you gathered to fight your chargeback.

I'd say the people who don't want to use Paypal will shop somewhere else. Some people don't want a Paypal account, not now not nerver.

i know if a bookseller or cd/dvd seller wants to move his stuff on amzn, the best place is amzn marketplace and the only payment method on marketplace is amzn one click.
So if ebay asks all sellers to use paypal ,what choice do sellers have??
go elsewhere??WHERE??????????????????
If you know a place better than Ebay for used stuff, let us know.

The reason we'd need copies of the front and rear of credit cards or bank statements is for pursuing mail fraud charges against the PP buyers in event of payment reversal or chargebacks. Sending packages via international "signed for" is proof of delivery for postal agencies and legal enforcement agencies - not for PP as they ignore it.

I tend to look how I act as a buyer when I devise my stratagy as a seller. Whenever I see something I want, I think twice if they do not accept Paypal. I like to use paypal when I buy because it is just so Darned easy. Now, If I think twice as a buyer, do I want my buyers to think twice when I am a seller? No, so I accept paypal so this whole issue is moot for me... However, I think it would be GREAT if the required all buyers to use paypal and all sellers to accept nothing but paypal. They could automatically withdraw the funds from their bank or credit card and put it in my accout at the end of the auction. If a country TENDS to have High chargebacks (nigeria, latvia, Bulgaria, so on), then Paypal will not be offered in those countries and Those buyers will not be able to bid. As for your freedom to accept any pay system you want, Go ahead and use Yahoo.auctions and take your checks and money orders. BTW, As a seller I like to get paypal payments over checks, Money Orders, and so on. It is safer (I've not yet lost a payment in the Email), Faster (The majority of my auctions are paid for within 24 hours of the EOA), and easier. As for the Fees, just part of doing business. I tack on a bit in the postage Dept and it pretty much covers it most of the time. The times it doesn't cover it, I am happy to have sold enough to have my Paypal fees be over $3.

if you have a paypal debit card, you can go shopping with the paypal fund in your account and get a 1 1/2% rebate from paypal .
Some folks will even transfer fund from their bank account to their paypal account when they want to make major purchase,a 1 1/2% rebate on a 5k purchase means a saving of 75 dollars.

I have the credit card option through my business. I do not need PayPal and do not wish to incur added fees related being forced to have a second credit card processing gateway - especially one whose business practices have been and are suspect, is not subject to banking controls and who places limits on the amounts you can withdraw from your account at any one time. I get great rates from my current service so why should I essentially double my monthly premium rates just to make eBay happy?

I make it as easy as possible to use their credit card through my regular account. In my EOA I offer them fax, phone, or e-mail. We are getting an 800 number in the next couple of weeks so they won't even have to make a long distance call to use their cards. For e-mail (which is what the vast majority chose) I suggest sending two e-mails with the info split between the two for security. In my EOA I stress the security of using my terminal over online services like PayPal which store credit card information. We store no information whatsoever so their card is completely safe with us - no one can hack our terminal. They also get an electronic receipt which verifies the sale amounts which they can keep for their records.

The nice thing about the phone option is the possibility of add on sales ("Would you happen to need a lead rope to go with the new halter you bought?"

Additionally, in the event of a charge back, I have the Bank of Omaha behind me. They do not do charge backs without an investigation, so as long as I keep my records up to date, I do not worry about charge backs.
