Ok this is so wacky !! It's a windup music box that plays the French Can Can but it's got a dancing skeleton. Still trying to figure out what a skeleton and the french can can have in common lol ummm maybe it was a clown (party hat and balls in each hand) and he did the can can till he turned to a skeleton
Anyways ....it looks like a Can (lol) covered in black leather with two black knobs on bottom,it's made by Otagiri in Japan. Does it have a formal name or should I just call it Skeleton Dancing to French Can Can Music Box .

Edited to add ...Where the heck would you list it lol....I'm thinking strange and unusual

Without seeing it close up - could it be from the celebration around the 1st of Nov. they do in Central America for the Day of the Dead? But how the CanCan goes with it, I can't even guess.

Hi toasted, well you certainly struck up my interest with this item. Wacky is right. I went to Yahoo put in skeleton doing the can can and this is what came out along with other responses but I thought this was the best.
SKELETON FOLK ART #1. Small skeleton figurines are handmade by artisans and sold at outdoor markets. ( Unless they're really good artists and export all their folk art to the United States!) ... They are always depicting a happy skeleton doing something they enjoyed when they were alive ...

It looks like you skeleton enjoyed doing the can can, Folk art is a good category and I guess you have some skeleton folk art there.

Thank you both for that helpful info !! I had thought of the Day of The Dead but not Folk Art. I used both in my description. I was hoping someone would say oh that a blah blah music box lol but I guess it's just to weird to have a name lol !

The Day of the Dead is also known as El Muerto Dias.. I don't think that this music box has anything to with this. I would say this is just a novelty item.
