I did something really stupid (what else is knew?). I accidently clicked the wrong thing and installed AOL 9.0a. I didn't like it so I uninstalled AOL 9.0. Well, I didn't realize it but when I did that, I lost all of my e-mail addresses included the ones that I use for my ebay business. Is there anyway that I can access those uninstalled files and reinstall them? They have to be somewhere on my computer!!! PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU CAN! I'm in total panic mode right now.

How awful for you, Bizzy. My hubby is not home right now, he would know what to do. But hopefully one of the very computer savvy folk here will post soon. Tom is very helpful with this kind of thing (or Ralphie is the one with the knowledge and he just gets Tom to type!) Good luck and try to be calm, I'm sure there's a solution.

OK ... I figured out what happened. *whew* That scared the heck out of me! My screennames are still there. It's odd but on the main sign-in screen they are all of my old deleted out screennames. But when I go into my main screenname and click to switch, all of my business screennames are there.

Hi Bizzy I am taking a stab at this, I do not have AOL, but my son does. I seem to remember when he was upgrading to 9.0 for some reason my granddaughter deleted the lower version first. I am sure my son said when he put in the 9.0 everything came back and was just upgraded. Maybe you should try putting in the 9.0 again and click on install and see what happens. I hope this will help until one of our super techs comes in and gives you the real deal. Hoping this may offer some assistance.

Hi Diane,
Oh good - you figured it out.
I was just going to suggest calling AOL, 1-800-827-6364.

OhmsLucy-It is much better to be a day late and a dollar short than not be here at all.

Just a suggestion that might save you gray hairs. Make a hard copy of your address book. I did this when I moved from MSN to Verizon DSL. Makes life a lot easier.

When Diane said "lost all my email addresses" she actually meant screen names, which is something very different.
But it's always a good idea to back up things like your address book.

Exactly! Thanks, Teacher. I was sooooooo upset when I wrote my initial post, that I wasn't thinking clearly! I do have a back-up of all of my e-mail addresses as well as e-mails that I need to save. I know I need to get rid of AOL, but I have been with them for years and I'm afraid to switch. I do have DSL through BellSouth, but kept my AOL because all of my screennames are on it.
I'm glad that I uninstalled their latest "enhancements" because they were really slowing my computer down. AOL puts so many unwanted file and programs on my hard drive that it eats at the memory and causes my computer to move at a snail's pace. Of course, I could always use more memory!

Diane
When I first got a cable connection, I used both for a while. Changed everything a little at a time. When I finally had all my contacts using my cable address, I cut off AOL. I am happier without AOL.

Cable here in NE FL is GREAT via COMCAST!
Over 2 years, I've had probably 6 hrs total down time -- tis usually LIGHTNING FAST, especially now with the WIRELESS!
I tried BELL-SOUTH DSL for 6mos & it truly SUCKED! My msn dial-up was better (LOL!)!
CABLE rules!
