I was just reading about the DHL Home Delivery system, and wondered if anyone on the board here had yet tried it, and if so, what you thought about it?

We presently use UPS, with daily pick up, which we are more than pleased with, and have been for 4 or 5 years, but I am always open to investigating new shippers.

We have never even tried Airborne, or FedEx because of the horrid delivery service we have received from both of these, when those shipping to us have used these two services. FedEx being the absolute worst we have ever dealt with as a buyer. We have even told one of our wholesalers that we would not accept any shipment from FedEx again as their service is so horrid. We have had packages sit at the FedEx terminal 15 miles from us for weeks without our knowledge, notice or any attempt at delivery, although we have a normal address, a large brick & mortar store with 500 feet of highway frontage, AND they have the phone number...only when frustration set in and we called the shipper, and they worked through FedEx did we ever get some of our packages!!

Anyway, has anyone tried DHL?? The one thing I couldn’t find on the DHL site was can one have their packages signed for, and if so what the extra charge was. I think I’ll call them on Monday with that question.

Thanks!

I just compared shipping costs of 1 pound from our zip to the standard zip we use to evaluate cost of shipping to the west coast, and UPS is still MUCH less costly, UNLESS, there is some major discount with DHL if one has a daily account.

Suppose I'll have to wait till a business day to talk to their offices about rates for daily shippers with accounts.

I was part of the old post and was very happy with DHL on larger item (just doesn't work on small items)
I'm about to change my mind as they have messed up about 4 out of 5 invoices. I don't have the time to call on everyone but if I don't it's going to cost me $3.00 extra pre items???

Thanks so much for the information.

ladyjewels - what do you consider a "large" item?

Anything over a couple of lbs - DHL saves you money if you have an account. But always remember that if it's to a residence - they charge you another $1.75. They cover insurance free up to $100.00 but you must leave the value field blank or you will be charged.
They have lots of rules that they don't tell you about, so be ware. If you call and the customer service person doesn't seem to know what they are talking about - they probably don't. Hang up and call back until you get a good CS person - they have plenty of good ones.

My only experience with DHL is when they came to my door, handed me a package and took off before I even had a chance to look at it. The box was for one of my tenants, who has an address different than mine, and was Signature Required.

Later that day the driver came back falling all over himself to retrieve the package.

My thoughts at the time were that I'd be reluctant to use DHL if they're that sloppy and unprofessional.

Well, y'all just need to use the shipping table employed by Hess Fine Arts, an eBay seller who has several seller IDs.

Minimum shipping for 1 lb and under domestic packages is $9.99 plus mandatory insurance. They use UPS.

Check it out:

I'm beginning to feel like I'm behind the curve when I see something like this...

Something to remember; All DHL local deliveries are franchised. What happens in one city maybe different in another. Locally, I would never use DHL, they have a lousy rep for on time delivery. On the other side of the coi, I use FedEx Ground for all of my heavy pkgs with no problems.
