I use WS_FTP it's pretty easy to use and you can download a free trial from CNET.

Doesn't XP come with ftp?

Click Start.

Select Run.

Enter "ftp yourservername".

Useful commands are "bin" to set file type to binary, "hash" to display hash marks while transferring files, "ls" to get a listing of files in the current directory, and "bye" to quit.

Be sure to download Spybot Search and Destroy before you even think about downloading an FTP program. Some of the popular FTP programs contain spyware.

Go to Tucows and read the reviews. For a mac get Fetch. For a PC Ipswitch is still the easiest and best.
Although, to be frank, Fetch is just 10 times smarter.
Fergitabout the spyware, you are buying software.

lol niel ... i too don't know for sure why or how they use an 'ftp program' ... all i know about that wording is that AOL gives each account an amount of ftp space to store pictures on the 'net if we want to ..... don't really know about "programs" for it?

Believe all servers give a certain amount of web space where one can store photos and whatever. However if you use Vendio for your photo hosting, is it worth it?

buyhigh: If you get an account with a real Internet Service Provider, instead of a PlaySkool version like AOL, generally they will allocate you some amount of disk space.

You'll need ftp to get your pictures from your home computer to that server's disk space.

I understand there are graphical versions of ftp, but they all do the same thing: move files from point A to point B.

I find an ISP worth it because I use it for email, domain hosting, dialup on the road, etc. but also because services such as Vendio and eBay's photo hosting tend to manipulate photos to get them to fit a template. I don't care for that.

buyhigh: It should work, since Windows XP has ftp.

If you run into any problems, page me here or [email protected].
