I'm sorry to say that I've joined you, Tom, in jail. The vendio poster police (woman) have forever labeled me a bigot. So, could you please instruct Ralphie that if he could lure himself away from his food bowl long enough to bring a file with him on his next visit? Tell him I promise never to go along with you by calling him a lardy arse again!

Hold on to whatever's nailed down! Best of luck to you both. To have to go through two so close together is unimaginable!

Cheryl,

HCQ stands for Heart Cottage quilts. She was
was a very frequent poster, very smart with a wide range of knowledge. Her posts were always a good read, she could be sweet, sarcastic & very funny too.
She sells handmade quilts made with antique material on eBay.
I forget her ID, but it is similar to Heart Cottage Quilts

Do you remember Shosh, (Shoshanna) well she posted something personal about HCQ. At the time we had moderators & they would delete such a post, but they let this post stand for a day or so & HCQ didn't like the unfairness of it & posted a swan song goodby. She meant it too, never came back.
She was at OTWA for awhile, but I think she left there too.

Shosh eventually left & she a big loss too.
She was an expert with many things, specially fine china. She can be found over at Inkfrog's message board, ID viola

I miss them both, You would have liked them.

I'll bet kiara could come up with some of her posts.

Were you here when jerry12 was posting. He was the best ever. He had so many problems & of course he made everything up, but it was so funny, specially when a new poster thought he was serious.

I remember both of those posters you mention as well as someone named Val or Val71 or something to that effect. She sold clothing on eBay. It seems like so long ago...

Shosh I remember. I did more lurking back then than anything else. I must have missed the offensive post. I miss all of 'em! A lot of good posters are gone. If some of the folks on the RT board can't scare me away, no one here can either. LOL!

Thanks for the info.

Oh Gosh, it's Shosh!

She was one of my favorite posters back in them good ole days of 2 yrs ago!

HCQ was extremely knowledgeable AND extremely blunt, especially with me as I was a TOTAL NEWBIE & she didn't suffer fools very gracefully -- BUT, I never felt that she was a mean or nasty person.

I do remember her describing her long battle for SS disability benefits -- I got the impression she suffered from that CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME???

Like the lady who wrote "Seabiskit" -- from her BED! All interviews done over the phone while never getting out of bed??

Ah the memories!

Was it Heart Cottage who started the "Van Gough" thread? That was the most interesting and longest thread I remember. I would rush home from work every day to read the latest installment. I do miss those threads.

How about everyone's favorite patsy, the woman who came for sympathy after she was kicked off eBay for shilling her auctions to pay for a new urn for her mother's ashes. She stuck around for a long time defending herself from almost universal slams.

I think it is a sign of my advancing age to be nostalgic for the "good ole days", even if they were just a couple of years ago!

My all time favorite thread was Jerry12's quandry about his African-American children objects -- I was literally ROTFLMAOPIMP for 1/2 hour when he came up with a TITLE for these auctions!

Could just imagine the PC-POLICE foaming at the mouth, a'la "Bonzai Kitties" over that one!

It's been almost 3 years now since the mass exodus. I remember many previous posters and they were valuable to the boards whether it was for their knowledge or for the comic relief.

I used to enjoy the posts by Amy and Eventer also and the boards used to have more variety and move right along each day with more input.

Tom,
I had forgotten that, she did have to spend a lot of time in bed & most of her posts came from there. She was also an animal lover, among others had a pet pot bellied pig she adored.

Yes, she was blunt, I never posted much then, I was afraid of her.

Shosh was one of my favorites too & she once did me a big favor.
I had a Noritake condiment set & posted a picture on AW & asked for help listing it.
She emailed me what to say, how to set it up & said most important put the word figural in the title. It was a key word.
I never would have done that if she didn't tell me. It sold for 834.00. I paid 20.00 for it (20 years ago)

Anyone know what ever happened to "executive girl or eventer

Yes, Cheryl, a lot of great posters are gone, but there are a lot of great new ones that make this place the best there is.

Helen, I don't remember Val, must have missed her.

I remember that set, mcjane. It was a super sale for you!

One Val I remember was the Val that got angry with a buyer and after she posted her version of the story the buyer came here and told her side of it and it was shown that the buyer was in the right. "Val" then erased all her story which had been somewhat untrue and she ran off. Then she came back as EG and then there was the infamous "Buttonhole" thread, still one of my faves.

I guess we all get a lot of enjoyment from this board - I know I do and so much good information too.
I don't recognize most of the names so I guess it was before my time too but I don't read every post either

I do remember the Noritake post and what a lovely set it was but I didn't know you got that much for it - good for you.
So what happen to fetish I think it was. You know the one with the whip? I didn't know what to think of her at first!!!!

Yes that is the Val I am talking about.

I remember the days of moderators on this board. How you couldn't post someone's ID or an auction number without their permission or without "inviting" them to join in.

I've been here a long time I guess. Lurking and posting.

3 years...wow...

Had no idea val was EG & I sure do remember the buttonhole thread. I sided with EG on that one & I'll tell you why.

The lady that bought the suit took a close up of the buttonhole & posted it & it did look bad, very bad. But, a close up specially with a Mavica magnifies, like a microscope, something that is miniscule to the naked eye.
I have taken closeups where a very fine scratch that I didn't even see before shows up & looks like someone took a nail to the item.

Remember almost everyone sided with EG until the buyer showed up & posted that picture.
Wow, what a fight that was, everyone got involved.

Yes, kiara it was a super sale, my best one.

Here is another poster I miss, think his ID was Daman or something like that. I miss zilvy too. Heck, I miss them all.

I miss the free for alls that used to ensue when Brenda and her extended family used to show up. She was the seller referred to above who shilled her auctions to pay for an urn for her mother's ashes. She would get suspended, and show up under a new name to defend herself. After several times, Mark Dodd stepped in and issued a gag order in which we were not allowed to mention her name or discuss the issue. It was the only way she would agree to stay away.

BTW, anyone know what Ross is up to these days?

Tom, that was a good one. The first jerry12 thread I read was about a problem he had with the postage buying plastic vomit. I couldn't believe how funny it was & his posts got better & better.

And then there was the one about the cow he sold on eBay & the buyer didn't want to pay shipping because he thought the cow should walk to his house.

When someone started a thread about what was your best yard sale find jerry12 posted about a diamond ring he bought at a yard sale an elderly couple was holding. They thought it was a CZ & he knew it was a real diamond. He gave them 5.00 for it & also made them throw in a book titled The Pokey Puppy & then sold the diamond to a jeweler at a huge profit. Even funnier was a reply by a newby who believed him & told him off for cheating an elderly couple.

I can't believe he has never come back since that night when AW changed the rules & many, many posters left. Maybe he will...someday.

{b]photo[/b] The Van Gough thread was the best & yes the longest ever. It was like reading a book.

kiara Only three years, it seems it all happened so long ago. The moderator from Australia, can't remember her name, had a contest the last night, it was trivia about different posts. I won by answering the most questions & she sent me a box with over 30 items from Australia. Lots of candies, cookies & other very nice things.
Heavy too, the postage must have been a killer. It was very thoughtful of her to do that.

sparkz, those were crazy times and I mostly lurked through it all. I remember we couldn't say the "B" word and then shortly after that we couldn't say "panties" either.

Ah yes, Ross and the "anonymous cowards"........ and all the sniping threads with Godzillatemple where everyone would get so worked up. The bubblewrap thread was fun too and Jerry12 was the very best.

mcjane, wasn't that Michelle who lived in Australia? She had a baby that same year I think.

AuctionAce just disappeared one day, Lucy. I don't know what happened for sure but it seems someone holds a grudge against me for his disappearance. I don't think they fully understood the bickering/joking that went on between Ace and I at times. I was not involved at all in his exit but can't seem to convince them otherwise.

Yeah, the MANDATORY cc thingy sent many long-time posters packing

OTOH: we did get rid of the "MOD-SQUAD"

The really strange thing is: once the moderators LEFT the BUILDING, the board became 100% more CIVIL & NICE!

Go figure!

The credit card to post was a factor, not all, but many said they might go along with that. What really caused the mass exodus was when AW said they also wanted a percentage of your eBay sales.

Up to that night AW was free & everyone was willing to pay for the service, but not willing to give a percentage of their profit.

Almost everyone went to OTWA & the thought was that there were enough ex AW posters to change it to be more like AW message board, but it didn't happen, it didn't change & still hasn't.
What I mean by that is on the OTWA eBay board you could talk about anything, didn't have to be eBay related. To me it seems more like a chat line.
